My original SN was “Blessedwolf,” a translation of my Hebrew Name (funny how people kept asking me if I was Native American when I told them it was my real name). It’s “lawyer” in Czech (and a few other Slavic languages). It literally means something like “truther.” ---

I picked **untimelysmile** because it neatly encapsulates (for me, anyway) all the awkwardness of youth, right down to smiling inappropriately at a bad joke. I needed a good handle to work with, and so far I haven’t found one 😃 ---

For several summers, I worked at a Girl Scout camp where everyone had a nickname. Mine was Mosquito and the British counselors would call me Mossie, which is, apparently, what they call mosquitoes in England. When I was just a wee little CIT (counselor in training), my CIT director affectionately referred to me as Miss Mossie. That name, and derivations of it, has been my username for various internet whatnots for the past six years or so. ---

The hockey strike of 2004/2005 had ended and the new season was almost set to begin when I first came here. It was the first thing that came to mind. In retrospect I wish I had given the name some thought. But I’m stuck with it now, I guess. ---

I do believe that Wheeljack was referring to the animated 1984 version of Transformers, and not the recent hit movie from acclaimed director Michael Bay. To stay on topic here my name comes from the fact that against all good sense of fashion and deceny I wear socks with sandals pretty much all the time in most weather with the exception of torrential downpours. ---

since I didn’t post in the other thread My name has nothing to do with the TV series. It is the name of a starship in my series of novels, the first two of which are done, and which I’m going to finish the agent letter any year now. The name was chose long before ST:Voyager was on. My book is not set in the ST universe, but in my own. ---

Tapiotar is one name for the feminine version of the ancient Finnish god/ruler of the forest animals and forest folk, like the queen of the fairy folk (but not as nearly as polished or courtly as the British Isles fairies we read about), more like nature guardian spirits of Greek myth. Yes, I’m ethnically Finnish, and I like hiking in the woods. I love reading the origins of names. With Bobotheoptimist, I am a tad jealous of Happy Lendervedder’s story. ---

**OneCentStamp** was the name of a [band](http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=423815) I was in a few years ago, which still stands out in my heart among other groups I’ve played with. The band name itself was pure brainstorm - I liked it because it was such a tiny thing, of such small value. Plus, at the time, the USPS had just hiked the postage rate (from $0.37 to $0.38, I think), so everyone was buying rolls of one cent stamps to pair with their old stamps. It was topical, in a mundane and small way. 🙂 ---

I changed from **Harimad-sol** (which is from Robin McKinley’s book _The Blue Sword_ ) when it seemed that many people confused me with another poster. I poked about in LOTR for a female name that wasn’t already taken, and I chose **Telperien,** who was a Numenorean queen. Didn’t put the “Tar” prefix on, though, because I don’t care for it. And the username that I use everywhere else (the protagonist of several of my as yet unfinished novels), Dareva, was too close to another poster’s for me to wish to use. ---

_[look up saved text document from the last four times this was asked on the board … copy … paste]_ I work at a small-market radio station. We get dozens of CDs a week from aspiring rock’n’rollers who want to make the big time, so they go out and make a “demo” CD and then ship copies all over the world, hoping somebody, somewhere will put it on the air and make them famous. Shortly after I joined, we got one such CD from an artist who’s name I no longer remember. The name of the album was “Sunrazor” and it was the most godawful thing you’ve ever heard. There was no rhythm, the “singer” couldn’t sing, the playing was just awful – seriously, it sounded like a parody of a really bad pre-teen garage band. Our morning man played a cut or two on the air as a joke, and the listener response was hilarious. As part of the gag, I pretended to like the music and kept asking him on the air to play it. Our news/sports guy started calling me Sunrazor and the nickname stuck (for about a year, when I had an Ozzie Osbourne moment and the morning jock started calling me the Prince of Dorkness.) I kind of liked the name, so I started using it on The Dope. ---

elmwood = Elmwood Avenue in my hometown of Buffalo, New York. It’s a very active pedestrian-oriented corridor lined with restaurants, bars, funky stores, coffeehouses, and the like, stretching for about four miles/six kilometers between downtown and Buffalo State College. I spent a lot of time there during my college years.
