He is not first to do things like this. When I lived in Illinois, all correspondence from the DMV had the name of the Secretary of State on the envelope, just so you’d remember it come election time.
The question for the Trump check is whether his name on the check will delay the money getting to the people who get checks - probably the people who need the money the most.
It’s an attempt to influence the election by bribery*. This may be a minor portion of the assorted methods being used to do so; but the overall issue isn’t minor.
*with the further issue, of course, that he isn’t even coming up with the bribe. He signed the bill, but he didn’t originate it.
It’s not so minor if you really need the money, since this nonsense is delaying it further. IF it didn’t do that, I wouldn’t care at all.
I mean, they’re saying they go out in September, last I checked. That’s so far away it could be after we’ve relaxed stay at home and had another outbreak and had to go back.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the check comes with a letter reading “I accidentally wrote this for too much! Please cash it and send the difference to me via Western Union. Love, Donald Trump”.
It’s effectively a political campaign ad, and that’s exactly why he did it. He’s using government resources to get a free campaign ad. It’s obvious.
Just because everything he does is a campaign ad, doesn’t mean you can dismiss any one action as “just narcissism.” That’s exactly what allows him to get away with his constant bullshit.
