I hear “thrill”, but I could see mistaking it for “skill” which would also make sense. ---

Sorry, sorry it took me longer than I thought to get back here! Anyway, I am amazed how many hear “thrill” so clearly and even “chill” surprises me. I can hear nothing EXCEPT “cream of the fight”! A few mentioned it above, and I know it makes no sense, but that is ALL I can hear for the life of me. I don’t know how “thrill” can sound like “cream”, but there you have it. Maybe there’s someone hears both can explain? ---

I never thought of it as being anything but “thrill of the fight,” but when I listened to it closely and tried to let the words just “blur” out, I ended up hearing “cream,” too. I thought my suggestion was going to be too silly (and almost didn’t post it), but looks like a number of people in this thread hear it, too. ---

Just worth mentioning: As a kid, I always heard Elton John singing “Put me in the sky with God” or “Lucy in the sky with God” not knowing of the original Beatles song of the same name. 😉 I heard Elton’s version recently on the radio, and while the name “Lucy” is clear, it seems Elton emphasizes the first syllable of “diamonds”, but the second syllable trails off - making the word sound like something short, like “God”. This is especially true at the end of the song where this line is sung in what equates to rounds.
