you mean true total darkness, but it’s at least common, I don’t think a deep cave or a mine is total darkness. ---

No insult, OP, but I’m not sure if you’re even being serious. Do you literally not know why the eyes cannot see things when the eyelids are closed? That’s like asking, “Why can’t I put food in my mouth when my lips are closed?” ---
