Back in Illinois, the expression for good news was Fuckin’ A! This was Christmas morning and New Year’s Eve and my birthday all wrapped into one! I live near downtown Seattle - and I left the place where I watched his acceptance speech. And then so did everyone else. Hours of people celebrating in the middle of the street - it was amazing. I’ve been swinging from joy to tears to pride in my countrymen… It’s a very good night. ---

You have to wonder what the Founding Fathers would think of this moment. Forget the fact for the moment that Obama’s not white, just the fact that the _entire world_ is celebrating Obama’s win. The BBC was interviewing people in other countries who were saying that they felt better about _their_ country because Obama had won. Without firing a single shot, the US might just have not only changed herself, but the world as well. Good Christ, this democracy business is powerful stuff. Maybe we should try it more often. 😃 ---

Here in Holland, a poll showed that 92% of our population would have voted for Obama, so I can say with confidence that we, as a nation, are very pleased with the election of Mister Obama, and me personally as well. Although he also has some very iffy values to me (no gay marriage, in favor of the death penalty), it is certainly preferable to the alternative. And **TVeblen** , regarding the question why the rest of the world would be interested in the elections at all, besides war: the US has a huge impact on almost every live around the globe. Whether it is a financial crisis, the start of end of a war, a terrorist attack, \*\*everything \*\*reverberates around the entire globe. _Of course_ we are interested in the person who, with a few decisions, can impact our lives across the pond as well. Obama seems to understand this. He seems to understand that his actions will not only impact Americans, but people around the world, and this is a huge improvement over his predecessor. ---
