Yesterday I start feeling under the weather about lunchtime. I figure “I’ll get some food in me, I have a doctor’s appt. this afternoon so I’ll be leaving early and hopefully it won’t spread and will clear up.” But no. One of the kids I work with has a meltdown (and I’m not blaming her, it was almost inevitable) so I can’t leave them high and dry (not that I would). I also foolishly wore work shoes on my feet are killing me. I manage to cancel the appt. (and thankfully my supervisor will “refund” me the sick half-day I took). Hopefully, I didn’t get more people at work sick. I leave, have to go back in to get my phone, leave again, and when I get home my mom reminds me she’s leaving to visit her sister. So I have a choice-does she leave and perhaps spread it to Sis, or stay home and have us both be sick. I finally persuaded her to go bc I don’t want her to extend her exposure, but I know she’s gonna worry about me all the time she’s gone and I can take care of myself. But if she stays… I’ll miss her, but it’s better. I just hate the idea that I might have ruined her trip and gotten her sick. I feel like an asshole and don’t know if I did the right thing. It might just be the flu. I dunno. Just a confluence of events I had to vent about. I am vaxxed and bolstered, thankfully. ---

Have you been able to home test? We have a small stash of tests so we can test if we are worried. My wife gets tested at work each week, but I test before we visit anyone. ---

One of the aspects of COVID that I don’t see much discussed is the anxiety caused by good-intentioned folks not knowing what to do. Several months ago I woke up feeling a little warm. I took my temp: 99.8. Zero other symptoms, no known exposures, vaxed and boosted. Do I: - Go to work with the small chance of having COVID, potentially infecting others? - Stay home, leave co-workers short, use up sick time (likely) unnecessarily. At that point I had about a ten-minute window to decide. I called in sick, temp went down, no COVID, burned two sick days. mmm ---

A friend has graciously volunteered to give me one of his tests. I told my supervisor I’m taking a sick day tomorrow just in case bc I know I won’t be 100% and I’ll let him know the result. If I use three in a row I have to get a doctor’s note though. ---

Damn! So sorry to read that. Hoping for the vaccines to do their job, so it’s over soon and painless. Is your mother OK so far? The mood here among the people I have spoken to (Berlin, Germany) is that we are all going to get omicron sooner or later because it is so contagious, to which I reply I hope to get it later, when the hospitals are not so crowded anymore. In spring, or in summer. Or even better: in 40 years. ---

Best wishes. At its least bad, i just talked to a friend whose kid tested positive. The kid never felt sick at all, although she tested (less and less) positive for three days. The other kid, who is normally sniffly, was maybe more sniffly, but never tested positive. She and her husband cuddled with their sick child, and did other normal child-time, and neither got sick nor tested positive. May your covid be like hers. ---

Thank you! The only person I came into contact with who has tested positive told me she started feeling symptoms on the 12th. Could it have taken that long to show symptoms, I wonder? ---
