Never the twain shall meet I say. Unless I meet someone in person first I do not want to FB friend them. The one exception is a group I joined to support a Doper 's very worthy cause. I have 635 FB friends so I am clearly not that discriminating. Just want to meet people first. ---

The Facebook group being open bothers me because the list that matches usernames / real names is in full view to anyone (outside of Dopers) that looks at the page. It is also my understanding that when one posts something to an open group it will show up in the feeds of their Facebook friends. I work at keeping my internet haunts compartmentalized, while it seems ‘The Internet’ is increasingly insistent on linking everything together. I hate that Spotify forces a link to a Facebook account, for example, and I was highly pissed when my YouTube account suddenly linked to my Gmail login instead of the one I’d actually created years earlier. As to Facebook friends in general, I keep my list tight and short and while I prefer them to be people I’ve had at least some sort of limited exchange with I also don’t adhere to any hard rules. I don’t add people just to add them or to increase my numbers - but if I’ve interacted with you here and/or you have seen me around and would genuinely like to know more about me by all means send me a note saying so. As long as 837 Dopers don’t flood my inbox I would probably Facebook buddy you 😉 ---

Yeah, you can see the group if it’s open if you’re not in the group… ..but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t show posts that people make in it on the homepage of their friends if they’re not in the group themselves. I do know that’s how it used to be and it used to do that, but I’m pretty sure it’s changed and hasn’t been that way for the last few months/year. ---

My only knowledge of this comes from the thyroid group I am a member of where members periodically get upset because people in their friends list -unrelated to the group- remark (to them, personally) on posts they made to a thyroid discussion. ---

I’d like some more Doper friends! The ones I have now always post fun stuff. I post fairly often, very frequently with pictures of my dogs being cute. I do play a couple games but I do my best to keep them from spamming the feed with updates (I think one I just started playing is doing it though so I have to go check). I try to keep drama off my status so you won’t be annoyed by status updates that just say: sigh… sad… OMFG!!! Or any other attention grabbing crap like that. If I have something to bitch about on facebook, I’ll just come right out and say it. When I do whine it usually has to do with sweeping up dog hair and mosquito bites. If you’re looking for a farmville friend, I’m not it. But, if you play castleville I don’t play but I do respond to gift requests at least once a week. I do not talk about religion or politics. So, if I sound like the kind of person you’d like to be fb friends with, send me a PM! ---

What? People use their real names on Facebook? My Friends list includes as talking gorilla, a young boy with a large moustache, a squirrel with a Power Ring, and the Emperor of the Red Fork Empire. And those are the normal ones. (I admit to having an account under my real name, which I never use.
