# Facebook has grown into a bloated, diseased yak, and should be put out of its misery

I’ve never used it, but I saw a big article in Rolling Stone that ragged on it, and its CEO. They said the whole point of it, and its way of making money, is targeted marketing. Everything you post or talk about is used to point you out to companies who sell exactly what you like. There’s no need to advertise electric sakbuts to the whole world. Facebook will sell them a current list of all their sakbut players. (Exaggerated example.)

I actually just got on facebook for the first time and I have reconnected with 5 friends that I used to love but fell out of touch with. It’s been great, lots of catching up and stuff. I don’t see any diseased yaks anywhere.

For what it’s worth, this is also essentially Google’s exact business model. Is it evil? Well, I like the functionality offered by Facebook and Gmail, and I’m not about to give up on either just yet.
