Not generally but it could be depending on context. Are you doing a deep dive to figure out stuff about their professional activities? Are you obsessing over their new relationship? Or are you just taking a quick look to see how they are doing and happy if they are thriving?

The OP question was about determining the political leanings of a member of their extended family they’re not much in contact with. Ideally without disclosing that they’re inquiring.

ISTM anyone who’s stridently political will tend to leave a trail of public postings. Decent bet the OP can satisfy their curiosity without much of a deep dive.

I really don’t want anything to do with this person anyway. When my brother and I where working for hours on setting up my dad for a nursing home, she dropped into the conversation and made a suggestion. Ok fine. My brother said we had already looked into that, and she ran out crying. My brother had to apologize.

Ummm… No thank you. Distance is your friend.
