Why is [this guy](http://www.drugfree.org/Portal/DrugIssue/MethResources/faces/photo_9.html) in the faces of meth? The caption says one year later. One year later he had facial hair and his hair had grown long. It isn’t really too clear to me what, if anything is wrong with the guy and by comparison with some of the others pictured he’s not been through the worst of it. ---

I’d agree that of all shown his change was the least disturbing. Some of those people went through apalling transformations. Why in the world do many of them beging to exhibit a profusion of facial sores? ---

Crystal meth makes you sweat a lot, which screws up the protective oils in your skin. It also irritates nerve endings, making the user feel like there are bugs crawling on them, and so they repeatedly scratch the area. A small breach of the skin and staph can infect. One supposes the hygiene of most of the characters is a bit lacking, as well, which increases the chances of staph infections. Staph infected sores on the skin of heavy meth users are so ubiquitous they have their own nickname: “speed bumps”. ---

I think the point of including him is just that he had become disheveled and likely had poor hygiene because of hte addiction. I am even more puzzled by [this one](http://www.drugfree.org/Portal/DrugIssue/MethResources/faces/photo_10.html). He doesn’t even look all that disheveled yet. They should be showing the nasty teeth that meth addicts develop too. ---

Agreed. A lot of these are pretty disturbing, but I actually prefer the after pic for this guy. Looks like a professional hairdo. Maybe they’re trying to show both the good and bad sides of meth use. ---

What get’s me is that many people turn to prostitution to support their habits. The thought of any of them naked is truly revolting. I can’t imagine being desperate enough for any kind of sex to go there. ---

What I gather is it’s not so much the sex but the fact that you can make them do anything because they will do anything for the money. Some people get off on watching others degrade themselves or being in a position of power over someone else. ---

God those pictures just cement how bad meth is up here in the Portland area of Oregon. It’s ridiculous and I honestly don’t understand why it’s so prevalent up here. I’ve got a meth-head living across the street from me. She’s generally a nice lady but god forbid she get the idea you have any scrap metal laying around. She’ll hound you to death for it. ---

I remember about a year ago I saw one of those comparisons where the girl actually looked hotter after being on meth. ---

When women first start doing it, they get a lot of positive attention for losing weight. For teenage girls, especially, this kind of attention can cause them to keep doing it until a full blown addiction has blossomed. ---

Those picture have been around for years. Surely they have more examples since then? For those interested, do a google for “meth mouth” it is well and truly nasty. I wonder if I put my dead freezer closer to the curb if a meth head will haul it off… ---

It’s only 6 months. [This one](http://www.drugfree.org/Portal/DrugIssue/MethResources/faces/photo_11.html) doesn’t look that dramatically different until you notice that it’s only 2 months. Meth is evil shit, man. What makes anybody even want to try it? ---

Maybe they’ve included the less severe cases because they don’t want to look like they’re cherry-picking to skew the truth. Plenty of anti-smoking PSAs exaggerate to the point of losing all credibility. Smoke one cigarette, and your teeth will look like someone smeared B-vitamins all over them. Smoke two cigarettes, and your teeth will turn dark brown and half of them will fall out. Smoke three cigarettes, and _your face falls right off_. People see these pictures and think, “Wait a second. I know plenty of smokers, and their teeth aren’t anywhere near that bad. The folks that made this PSA are full of shit.” With a more representative set of before-and-after pictures, you’ll be more credible, and side-effects of meth use will seem more certain. ---

I know someone that looks like a happy not cracked out version of that guy. He’s a hippie type person, quite chill. So my impression is “Oh, hey!
