Falklands: thank you for nothing, Mr Obama (extra mild)

It has a seat in the Assembley and a seat in the Senate.

I believe this is one area where the Sovereign has retained the authority of her office.

Obama wanted Brazil’s support in the UN (sanctions against Iran). Lula just told Hillary to go pound sand. So Hillary was sent to Argentina, to get their support. The deal will be:
Argentina supports US on Iran, US agrees to pressure the UK to “share” the Falklands oil riches.

Well, I can see the benefit of Brazilian support, being as they are on the Security Council. But Argentina isn’t. What good would their support do re sanctions on Iran when compared with the harm done to the British-US relationship?

Argentina is not currently a member of the UN Security Council. Don’t you ever get tired of making things up?

ETA: beaten to punch.

Yes. Down about 10% since the start of the year.

That’s kind of interesting math:

From here the stock price of Falkland Oil & Gas Ltd (FOGL) closed last year at 128.7, and closed March 3, 2010 at 139.68, which does not strike me as a 10% drop.

By far the largest daily drop was March 3rd, where the stock dropped 6.3% of its value. When this story broke, however, looking back at the newspaper cited, was the in February 25th’s newspaper, so presumably it happened on the 24th.

On the 24th, the stock price of FOGL dropped by about 2.5%, hardly a plunge, while on the 25th it recovered slightly, gaining almost a point.

So, over the year, FOGL has risen 8.5%, at a time where the Dow Jones US Oil and Gas Index has fallen over 3.5%. Maybe Obama can take a look at my 401(k) and “plunge” some of the stocks in there.

ETA - it closed today at 145.00, recovering a very hefty chunk of yesterday’s losses.

And when I say largest daily loss, I mean largest daily loss since this (non) story, not largest daily loss this year - apologies.

You’re right. I meant to write ‘shortly after the start of the year’. This is clearly visible on the graph.

OMG! The stock has dropped since an arbitrarily chosen date! Scandal!

And the rest of the post?

Now the Obama administration has been rejecting our cultural and diplomatic brotherhood with Britain and instead giving full equal hearing to some more or less groundless claims by some Latin countries.

The horror!

I make no comment there.

Argentinian courts have found that Iran was involved in the Amia building bomb attack. As a result of that we have severed relations with Iran.
The US does not need our support in this issue because we hold the same position with respect to Iran.
