I think it would be great if they took a page from Torchlight and gave you a canine companion that can haul gear back to your hideout. As an incurable pack rat, I’ll clear out an area, pick up everything that isn’t bolted down, then travel back and forth stashing it at my safehouse. This can get bit tedious. Now, if I could just tell my furry little friend to haul stuff back for me, that would be an excellent compromise between alleviating tedium and reasonably balancing my inventory.

I was just reading a write up on New Vegas in game informer magazine, they are saying that your companions are highly improved. They are not just “Dudes who follow you around”

Any one have any info on what some of the improvements are? They didnt say much in the article besides, they will have bigger storylines and become stronger in game.

Also there was alot of talk about the casinos in game. They said “It’s generally a bad idea to start shooting random folks in a casino” I plan on going all scarface on em the first chance I get! “Say ello to my lil friend” _Launch mini nuke_

Watching the AI in those situations are a highlight to me. Like in oblivion when I drug a Will o the wisp into town. Ahhh fun times!

> I just read that Fallout New Vegas is being developed by Obsidian Entertainment, not Bethesda. This saddens me rather greatly. Obsidian is known for having great ideas than rushing them out the door as an incomplete product. KOTOR 2, for instance. I’ll definitely hold off on buying this one out the door

The irony here is that Bethesda used to be infamous for doing this. Seems they managed to get their act together around the time they released _Morrowind_, but their previous games were, on release, almost unplayable buggy messes.

Not an RPG, but Dead Space did this - you could access your inventory whenever you wished, but it wouldn’t pause the game. Necromorphs (zombies) could and would attack you while you were just standing around minding your own business.

So did _System Shock 2_. That’s one of the reasons I always put my caches in hard-to-reach spots, so I could keep one eye on the door as I check the map or work out what equipment I need.

Another addition to hardcore mode announced- cripped limbs don’t heal without medical intervention. Apparently, you need to visit a doctor or use a doctors bag to heal them-stimpacks and resting have no effect. Good idea- makes being out in the wilderness that much more dangerous.

I don’t mind the extra carrying restrictions, as long as there’s a way to carry stuff outside your own inventory. A pack mule would be acceptable, but a car would be a really great solution. Having a house in Fallout 3 was nice and all, but you have to travel there every time you want to access your stores. Storing things in your car fits the lone wanderer theme much better too.

I hope they’ll do the hunger and thirst restrictions gradually. It’s a bit silly that you go straight from being fine to starving and losing health in some games. For example after one day you could become hungry, but have no ill effects yet. A second day of not eating would give you slight stat penalties. A few days more would increase the stat penalties, until you finally start starving for real.

I’m guessing that’ll be the mechanic, similar to the way radiation poisoning was implemented in 3, gradually damaging your stats and eventually killing you.

I agree. One of the things Fallout 3 did worse than Oblivion, in my opinion, is that only giving you one house made the game world seem a lot smaller. Giving us a car would let us spend a lot longer away from home before we need to squirrel away our extra loot, as well as the advantages I outlined in another thread.

WHAT??? Driveable cars in fallout 3-N.V.? RE HE HEALY?

Would be great if they did it similar to borderlands. Where you can drive almost anywhere except for major quest locations. Love squishing heads with my bumper.

I was reading an article on [1up.com](http://1up.com) about some changes taking place in the game, when I came across this line, “A new orbital laser weapon can be used once per day”. Sounds interesting to say the least.

Among the other changes listed, the “big weapons” and “small weapons” skills will be merged into one standard “weapon” skill. The explosive weapons (like rocket launchers) will be categorized into “explosives” instead of big weapons.

That could be what is seen blasting the hell out of some solar collectors in the screen shot I linked.

> In addition to including the highly anticipated game, this premium version of Fallout: New Vegas also includes the game-inspired items below:
>
> ♠ “Lucky 7” poker chips. Each of the seven poker chips was designed to represent chips from the major casinos found on the New Vegas strip and throughout the Mojave Wasteland.
>
> ♠ A fully customized Fallout: New Vegas deck of cards. Each card in the pack has been uniquely illustrated to depict characters and factions found within the game. Use the cards to play poker, blackjack or Caravan, an original card game that was created by Obsidian especially for New Vegas!
>
> ♠ A recreation of the game’s highly coveted “Lucky 38” platinum chip.

On a scale of “1 to Tanya Donnelly, circa 1994”, the Fallout New Vegas Collector’s Edition just reached “ability to eat at Brazilian steakhouses every day, calorie-free” on my WANT list.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to raise your hopes up. I was just saying that they _should_ put it in. Unfortunately, Obsidian Entertainment and “fucking awesome” tend to be mutually exclusive.
