My other half came up with the notion that if your first child is a girl, then you are more likely to have girls as subsequent offspring. I couldn’t find anything in a Google search, so I thought I would conduct a straw poll amongst Dopers - just for the fun of it. My father’s family–boy first, then three girls. My mother’s family–first was a girl, wound up with 6 girls and 3 boys. My family–one girl, no boys. ---

In my immediate family, I had a girl first and then a boy. In my family (my parents and siblings), it was three girls. I’m the youngest. In my father’s family, it was boy, boy, boy. In my mother’s family, it was girl, boy, girl. ---

My mother’s family - 4 girls My father’s - 2 boys, 1 girl. (in that order.) Mine - 2 boys (me and my brother.) My kids - 2 girls Uncles and aunts: Aunt 1: 2 boys Uncle - 1 girl Aunt 2 - 1 girl Aunt 3 - 2 boys. Aunt 4 - none. You see that even if I really, really wanted a boy, I would have been wise to give up at two. 🙂 ---

My family of origin does not matter as I can provide only x chromosomes. However, the order for my generation was: boy/girl/girl/boy/boy/girl. My father’s generation was boy/girl. Dearly Beloved’s family is easy: boy/boy His father: boy/boy His uncle: boy/boy His grandfather: boy/boy And following in the family tradition, our family together is: boy/boy. When Dearly Beloved said he would like to have a third child but only if it were a girl, I suggested we adopt. I am afraid they have to marry girls. ---
