# Family Day!

It’s a Public Holiday in Canada, (because February was always needing a long weekend!), it’s Family Day.
All families, however formed count! Big families, small families, extended families, blended families, step families.
As it’s a newish holiday, traditions are very free form, no parades, special foods, church services, gifts, cakes or cards required! Just enjoy your family, that’s all that’s needed.
My generation of this family was hot mess/trash fire, if they’d had this celebration back when, I’d have refrained, feeling little worth celebrating, to be honest.
But time moves on, the wheel turns, the next generation of this family is astounding, remarkable, and impressive, in every regard.
I am celebrating all day long.

Nitpick: it’s a “Provincial Holiday” - not celebrated in Quebec, Newfoundland, nor the three Territories. It’s not a Federal holiday, so post offices, and other Federal offices should be open as usual.
It’s named “Family Day” only in Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and New Brunswick. It’s “Louis Riel Day” in Manitoba, “Nova Scotia Heritage Day” in Nova Scotia, and “Islander Day” on Prince Edward Island.

…and since I’m a Federal Employee, who technically works in Quebec, I double don’t get this day off. I hear they’re thinking about taking away another stat holiday to account for this 😃

Ahh, but it’s Family Day here not family day. The capitals make it special.
