Perhaps you should undertake a course is analysis. I was not defending the comment- I was not called to. I was stating that Alessan is not a fucking idiot. There is a difference.

I await your apology which I doubt that I will see.

> Yeah, I guess I can see your point, and maybe that’s what the family had in mind. But either they royally fucked up the delivery of that point or the reporter did by editing out some key phrases.
>
> For example, a good way to pitch the story as a “fuck-you” to the shooter would be to lead in with, “A Houston family decides to not let the hatred of behind the Ft. Hood shooting win out in the end.”
>
> Then, the dad, for instance, could say something like, “I’d like to let what’s-his-name, Nadal Hassan, know that he didn’t break my daugher’s spirit. She’s married and happy now, and he can’t take that from her.”
>
> If the point was to convey a sense of defiance against evil, somebody dropped the ball on that story.

I like this - take your positive from a negative experience without shitting on everyone else’s miserable experience that probably has very little positive about it.

Dude, as much as the family is kinda doing something silly, this quote makes you a raging, engorged asshole. You’re allowed to say dumb shit when you’ve been shot pretty recently.

Perhaps you should take a course in reading comprehension, dumbass.

You’re defending Alessan, who is a fucking idiot for making that comment.

I didn’t say you defended the comment.

I await your apology, which I doubt I’ll see.

I usually stay out of the Pit but those who are defending this young woman’s statements as well as her family really piss me off.

1. As a wife of a soldier, I understand the military and the camaraderie that exists between soldiers. This man’s act is a violation of trust on so many levels. He wasn’t just some stranger opening fire at McDonalds. He was a fellow soldier.

2. This young woman VOLUNTEERED to serve our country. VOLUNTEERED with the full understanding that she is being trained to defend our country. VOLUNTEERED knowing that the chance of being deployed is extremely high. Did I mention she VOLUNTEERED?

3. For one second, try to put yourself in the shoes of those families whose son/daughter/brother/father/mother was killed that day. Is that too hard? Let me try to help. Think of the person who you love the most. Now think of that person dead after one tragic day at Ft. Hood. Dead. Gone. Now imagine hearing some fucknugget THANKING the killer for just wounding his daughter.

This goes way beyond being grateful that your daughter is still alive. This spits in the face of all of those people who lost the people that they loved the most.

This seems appropriate to this thread:\*

Some have harsh words for this man of renoun.
But some think our attitude should be one of gratitude.

And she would have gone on her deployment if she hadn’t been shot. There’s no sin, however in her being relieved that she doesn’t have to go. Same with the parents.

I suspect that it isn’t all that uncommon for soldiers to maybe hope they won’t be deployed to the Middle East.

I understand what you’re saying and I don’t disagree. It was stupid for them to go public with those kinds of comments, regardless of what they’re thinking. And I can empathize with the idea that it’s disrespectful of the other people and families who were affected that day.

However, if we put on their shoes for a second, it seems perfectly understandable to have the feelings they do. The Father was I’m sure worried that his daughter might be killed overseas and is relieved that, even though it took something like this, his daughter is safe at home.

I fault the people for being insensitive and well, dumb for saying these things publicly. I can’t fault them for feeling they way they do.

Which is why the only people entitled to be outraged are those who were victims of the shooter. And as this women was one herself, she has much more right than you or I to be bitter and twisted by what happened, but she has decided to fuck all that and look at the positive aspects of the event. After all, had she not been shot, she could have been standing on an I.E.D a week later, in some sanity forsaken shithole.

Damn, I’m really disappointed. I was hoping this was going to be a news story about some people who really hated their family member who was killed. “Yeah, Private Billy was a real dick. You did the world a favor with that one! Good shootin’! Say, do you do weddings? 'Cause Cousin Clara is getting married next week, and let me tell you, I don’t really think her fiance is the best match she could have made…”

Who the fuck is anyone else to tell the victims how they have to feel? It’s not your business, man.

I remember after the Rodney King riots when that truck driver who got jacked and beaten said he was a Christian, and that he had forgiven his attackers. People were similarly outraged about that. “How dare he forgive those animals?” I don’t get that mentality at all. Show some fucking respect for the victims.

That was my first thought. Why would somebody who dreads deployment so much _that she’d rather be shot_ join the armed forces?

She was there. She got shot. She has the right to feel any fucking way about it she wants to, and we have the right to shut up and realize that our opinions about her experience are like so many farts in the wind.

There’s a difference between, “I forgive the person who harmed me,” and, “God orchestrated this tragedy, which killed many people, so that my lazy ass doesn’t have to do the job I signed up for.”

I’m offended, not by her thanking the shooter, but by her view that avoiding a deployment is a _good_ thing. Why isn’t she saying “Not only did I get shot, but now I have to miss the deployment! Dammit!”? Way to shirk your duty, soldier.
