For some “easy listening” samples from Brazilian popular music, including bossa nova, check out The Brazilian Hour and other such shows you can find by Googling “bossa nova radio” or similar terms. The Brazilian Hour is also available on some NPR stations.
Zeldar has given you some great resources. My favorite source for world beat samba and bossa nova
Not really famous as a Bossa Nova song, but “No Reply” by the Beatles uses a Bossa Nova beat in the verses.
Todd Rundgren recorded an entire album of some of his biggest hits with a bossa nova interpretation called “With A Twist”.
Here’s a sampling:
I like So Nice (Summer Samba) by Bebel Gilberto.
Bossa Nova USA - Dave Brubeck
Okay, this is technically choro and not bossa nova, but close enough. Here’s a clip of hammond organ superstar Ethel Smith doing amazing things with the song Tico Tico (from the movie Bathing Beauty).
This clip never fails to help my mood. I think it’s the sheer weirdness mixed with Smith’s obvious talent.
Two of my favorites:
Sérgio Mendes: Brasil '66
Bossacucanova: Uma Batida Diferente
