I thought for my 200th post I would do one with a topic besides beer.

Have any past or present catch phrases associated with one person or show?

For Conan, it’s “We have a great show for you tonight. Not like all the others.”

Also, the old ones never seem to die.

One of my kids’ current favorites is from the old “The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis” show, where Maynard G. Crebbs (“Gilligan”) reacts to the word “work” with horror: “WORK!!”

Well, I’ll always associate “I have a bad feeling about this” with Han Solo…

And Luke…

And Leia…

And Chewie (he grunted it).

“And away we go…” Jackie Gleason

Jack Benny’s was non verbal, but everyone knew the gesture.

in later years Groucho’s: “You bet your life”

I love those porn movies where they use the catch phrase “Your pizza’s here.” It’s so nice to know they’re consistent.

Though I was always partial to MP’s “And now for something completely different.”

Congrats on 200! Guess you don’t drink much beer, but mind if I have some? Ahhh…smoooth!

Now for catch phrases.
The old shows always had one.

Johny Carson had “Here’s Johnny!”

Jack Benny could make a catch phrase out of one word “Well!”, and “Oh, Rochester”

Rowan & Martin had “Sock it to me!”

Jackie Gleeson had “How Saweeet it is!” and “Awaaay we go!”

Of course there were announcers like Walter Cronkite saying “And that’s the way it is.”

Well, most people associate David Duchovny with the X-Files. I associate him with “Dear Red Shoes…”

There are MANY catchphrases I assoicate with Get Smart, the Original Star Trek, Married with Children, etc. I could probably post one a day for several months.

Congrats on your 200th post, annalamerino!

“Great Caesar’s ghost!”

“Not that there’s anything _wrong_ with that”, from the _Seinfeld_ episode where everyone thinks Jerry’s gay, seems to have passed into common currency, since I’m familiar with it and have never watched the show (not that there’s anything _wrong_ with that . . . ).

One that was fairly widespread in my circle in college, and that I still use regularly myself, is “There is that”, but I’m afraid I’m unable to assign any specific cultural (pop or otherwise) source to it. Any notions?

I’ve mentioned elsewhere my tendency to throw out “But the cat came back” in conversation.

And of course, in the spirit of the OP, “They pelted us with rocks and garbage”.

Well good for you Anna.
Glad to see some of the people who came before me still have low counts! "_Not that there’s anything wrong with that._ "🙂

All my references are going to go back a ways.

Jack Benny on radio: “Jell-o Again”
And his sidekick Cy “Cy, si.”

Jackie Gleason “One of these days, POW! right in the kisser!”
“To the Moon, Alice!”

Bob Hope “But seriously…” “My room was so bad that…”

Dinah Shore “See the USA…Goodnight Everybody. MmmWaaah!”

Lonesome George Geobel “Do you know why I’m called Lonesome…”

Uh, what about “I’ll be back…” the standard Schwarzenegger quote?

Or “Beam me up, Scotty”? Or for that matter, “He’s dead, Jim”?

Or “Good Morning, Mr Phelps…”

Yes! I’d totally forgotten. **lamerino** had 25 posts, a nice round number.

Thanks for coming everyone 🙂 and do have some more of the special punch. It’s my favorite recipe.

As for catch phrases,
Johnny Carson had a lot, but I can only come up with these:
\*\*“Take the Slawson Cutoff, get out of your car, cut off your slawson, get back in the car”
“And then you come to _the fork in the road_”

**As Aunt Blabby swats Ed McMahon** “Never say _undertaking_ to an old person!”
