I don’t know why this is leaping into my head. I’m nowhere near old enough. “Good night Mrs. Calabash, whereever you are,” was Jimmy Durante’s usual, though cryptic, sign off. Oh, and “Thanks for the memories,” was Bob Hope’s. ---

What about all the great SNL catchphrases over the years: “Well isn’t that SPECIAL…??” “Yeah, that’s the ticket.” “Makin’ copies…!” “Jane you ignorant slut!” “NOT!!” “I’m good enough, I’m smart enough, and doggone-it, people like me!” (Stuart Smalley) Does anyone remember the official catch phrase from the old David Letterman show when they were doing gags like “The Fugitive Guy” and “The Guy Under the Seats” (Chris Elliot)? They had a catch phrase that was: “They pelted us with rocks and garbage” We used to say that all the time when I was in college. Then they did some contest to come up with a new catch phrase, but it wasn’t as good as this one. Another old David Letterman catch phrase: “You kids get out of my yard!!” ---
