Jimmie Foxx deserves recognition here. During his home run-hitting heyday with the Athletics and Red Sox he was known as “The Beast” in reference to his physique and powerful swing. There was a joke around the major leagues that “he wasn’t scouted, he was trapped”. ---

As long as I’m here: Caldecott Chubb was a bigger deal in the 90s (producing HOFFA, with Jack Nicholson and Danny DeVito; producing EVE’S BAYOU, with Samuel L Jackson and Lynn Whitfield; producing THE CROW, with Brandon Lee and Ernie Hudson), but he’s been at work in Hollywood since: a Chris Rock movie _here,_ a Richard Gere movie _there,_ a Kurt Russell movie along the way… ---
