Famous people with animal names

If we’re talking about names and children’s books, might as well make quick mention of Louise Lamprey…

In college, Jeff Jaeger set an NCAA record for having kicked the most field goals; after going pro, he — well, yes, there was a year when he kicked more field goals than anyone else in the NFL, like you’d maybe expect, but he also thereby scored more points that year than anyone else in the NFL. I mean, yeah, there was a time when running back OJ Simpson was the NFL annual scoring leader, and a time when it went to wide receiver Jerry Rice — but, well, nothing stops a kicker like Jaeger from having a year like that either, is all.

And, switching sports for a moment, there’s baseball Hall Of Famer Turkey Stearnes…

The lovely, the talented: Kate Manx!

Star of TV’s The Gray Ghost — you know, after doing various movies with Errol Flynn in the 1940s, but long before playing The President in The President’s Plane Is Missing in the 1970s — Tod Andrews was all over the place: headlining the schlocky sci-fi film From Hell It Came, sure, but also showing up for everything else from a Clint Eastwood western to a Bela Lugosi horror flick. Is John Wayne doing his thing in the Pacific? Is Humphrey Bogart doing his thing in the Atlantic? Is Ronald Reagan getting shot down behind enemy lines? Is Jimmy Cagney getting court-martialed? Well, call Tod Andrews, because this movie ain’t gonna make itself!

How about Héctor “Macho” Camacho?

Will offer former Australian Prime Minister and one time Guiness World Record for Beer Drinking champion Bob Hawke as compensation.

I’ll offer former college president, and noted author of fiction and nonfiction, Josiah Bunting — who briefly picked up extra prominence on the national stage when he was the guy integrating female cadets at VMI, even while telling anyone who’d listen that he found the idea to be “a savage disappointment”.

Hall of Famer Bulldog Turner.

Per wikipedia, Nobel Prize winner Israel Isaac Rabi eventually “started writing his name as Isidor Isaac Rabi, and was known professionally as I.I. Rabi.”

Like many of your suggestions, I don’t know what animal this name refers to. Usually I can google it, but I’m not even sure what to google for here.

I.I. – aye-aye

Bad Waldo! No biscuit!

In the same vein, but with extra explanation: there’s famous golf champ Chi-Chi Rodríguez, just like there’s the Chi-Chi dog breed: a mix of the Chinese Crested and the Chihuahua…

Molly Ringwald achieved superstardom when promptly making her way from Sixteen Candles to The Breakfast Club to Pretty In Pink — and, per wiki, Poecilia sphenops , called the Mexican molly or simply the molly , is a species of poeciliid fish from Central America.

The spitz is a dog breed, sure as Mark Spitz won a lot of Olympic gold medals.
