Famous Relatives

ColdFire: The Dutch have a national anthum? Huh. Imagine that… < ducks >

I’m inderectly realted to Aaron Burr (my mom was adopted).

< refraining from making any jokes about Adam or Eve >

You say “cheesy” like that’s a BAD thing.

I have a cousin who was in the movie “Jaws”. ok, he was in a beach scene and you had to look wothout blinking, but still! And a good friend of mine was in the Nickoloeon show “Welcome Freshmen”. He was an extra in a scene that took place in a lunchroom.

The more you complain, the longer God lets you live.

You guys didn’t see that typo, did you?

Of course nit.

Tom-

You’re completely correct. I wasn’t referring to the actual battle, but the attack on the town afterwards. I should have been more accurate. My reaction to the event is a combination of the fact that relatives of mine were involved and the obvious misrepresentation of it that I found in my history book in junior high. I tend to jump on these things.

Thanks for the link. . .I’m going to have to explore Pat Collins’s site now. Looking forward to it!

Also, if anyone wants to read an absolutely wonderful fictional account of that battle and huge amounts of other American history, check out the Alvin Maker series by Orson Scott Card. It’s one of the best alternate histories in print. Seventh Son is the first in the series.

Some sort of cousin to the former gov. of Wisconsin, Patrick Lucey. You all remember him… John Anderson’s running mate?

Anger is only one letter short of danger.

dougie_monty–I, too, am related to Robert E. Lee (my dad’s side)

On my mother’s side, I am related to Rose Kennedy. (Of course, I guess that means the rest of the clan too but I’ll just stick with Rose1)

Born O.K. the first time…

If you are born again, do you have two belly buttons?

I’m told that my maternal grandfather was a very distant relative of William Wallace (Braveheart). Grandpa’s name was William Wallace Grant. His mother was from the Wallace clan.

My dad’s brother is an extra in the Jackie Chan filmed that finished shooting in August in Alberta.

I co-founded a theatre society, and we present puppet shows created by an international children’s disability awareness troupe. I’ve only been in local papers, but French Stewart from Third Rock From the Sun got his start in a disability education puppet troupe  (I’m not sure if it’s the same troupe, but it’s still cool!)

My husband’s mother’s cousin is the senior senator from Kentucky, Wendell Ford. I’m not sure what degree of cousinship, but he did send us one of those flags that had flown over the Capitol Building.

-Melin

Imogene Coca.

My second cousin was George Raft’s stunt double.

Remember, I’m pulling for you; we’re all in this together.

My father’s first cousin was Joan River’s hairdresser. Until he died about 7 or 8 years ago. He’s not her hairdresser anymore, obviously.

On my mother’s side, I’m supposedly related to one of the first settlers of Pennsylvania, but I don’t know how much truth there is to that, since no one has been able to narrow it down to a name.

Jeremy…

Anyone who says they don’t like children obviously isn’t cooking them properly.

Strainger
No idea if they have any kind of family tree traced out. We tend to make fun of him for the Pickett’s charge thing, no sitting around discussing ancestors.

He is definitely a direct decendent.

Well, shut my mouth. It’s also illegal to put squirrels down your pants for the purposes of gambling.

My son is a third cousin or something to Bart Starr (the football player). Also, my grandpa dealt cards for John Dillinger (not that we’re related or anything, but a cool bit of trivia nonetheless!).

Melatonin, you mean Bob doesn’t come to any of the family reunions?

“Who’s that dark, quiet guy over in the corner, scarfing down Aunt Hilda’s potato salad?..you’re KIDDING.”

Uke

eden! I love Tom McKnight’s stuff - we have a print of Riviera Coast, which I love… Too bad he’s a jerk.

Satan! Did you know that Gutenberg was on the top of A&E’s 100 Most Influential People of the Millennium? Now that’s a relative - cool!

I’m a cousin, on my father’s side, of Johnny “Mack” Brown’s. He was an actor who did over 200 westerns in the first half of the century. Never met him and haven’t gotten around to seeing any of his movies yet - I’m not a big fan of westerns.

Men are from Mars, women are from Venus, dogs are from Pluto.

My dad would strangle me for talking about him in public, but his cousin, Vendyl Jones, made the news a few years back. He sued Steven Spielburg for stealing the story of his life and turning it into a movie - Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Yes, Vendyl is a crackpot. Here’s his website

Oh, and my great, great grandmother was the cousin of one Larkin Skaggs, a convicted murder, slaveowner, and Baptist preacher who road with Quantrell’s Raiders and was the only one of them killed during their raid on Lawrence, Kansas.

What happened was, he was so drunk he forgot to leave with them, and they caught him trying to burn down one woman’s house. He kept lighting matches, and she kept blowing them out. When he realized he was the only raider left in town, he took off, but was caught on the road outside of town. He was shot by arrows and gunfire, stabbed, scalped, dragged down the main street by a horse, and finally hung up for several days before being pulled down and thrown away. His body was never recovered.

Hmmm . . . kinda makes me glad he was only a cousin.

Will work for sig line.

Genetically im pretty sound I guess. Nobody famous in my family.

I am me… accept it or not.

Distantly related to 3 presidents:
John Adams,John Quincy Adams (duh), and Teddy Roosevelt.
Also distantly related to the Duke of Edinburgh (Scotland)…and to Glen Campbell (yes, the rhinestone cowboy…LOL)
My grandfather was the founder of the Clan Campbell Society of America.
Oh…those of you who know me may get a giggle out of this: I qualify for membership in the D.A.R… and for whatever it’s called for Mayflower descendants…

OK, so God created me; so he has control over me; so he has no right to bitch about anything I do.

I have a distant cousin who’s a Mormon, so he has much more invested in genealogy than I do. Anyway, he claims he has records that prove we’re descended from Robert the Bruce and Charlemagne, but whenever I e-mail him about getting a copy, he’s not very forthcoming. It’s like a FOAF deal; these are the urband legends of family trees
