So is there any reason to think Ricky Williams will be worth anything the rest of the way? I might drop him to take a flier on somebody that might end up as useful in a few weeks. Also any suggestions on the “somebody” would be appreciated :).

We expanded my league from 10 to 12 teams this year, and I’m finding it much more difficult to find useful spare players. That might also be due to my worse injury luck this year though, I suppose.

Is it a keeper league? Even if it isn’t, you might take a hard look at Jordan Shipley and David Gettis at WR.

I’d just like to thank everyone again for rejecting my trades when I was offering up Peyton Hillis.

I have Rodgers/Bowe/Hillis in two leagues, and I think I’m setting the league record for scoring in both this week. Ironically in one of those leagues I’m playing the guy who I offered Bowe and Hillis for Darren McFadden. I bet he’d like to go back and make that trade before it hit him like a freight train.

Before the game started, I posted the smack “Hillis and Bowe will beat you alone!” and set my roster only starting Bowe and Hillis before switching it before the games started. It turns out… that would’ve worked.

I have the points lead in all 3 leagues I drafted this year - all pro, auction, and big. I’m in 4th place in the dynasty league, where I’m saddled with a fairly bleh team.

I am essentially a supervillain at this point.

Is it typical that a D/ST has interceptions returned for TDs by the other team count against them in fantasy football?

I went with the Browns D/ST against Carolina this past week and they’re counting 23 points allowed, even though 6 of them were garnered on an INT return. Should I expect a stat correction at some point, or is that how it’s usually scored?

Normally, it wouldn’t matter, but the difference is two points… the exact amount I lost this week by (thanks for nothing, Vincent Jackson and Frank Gore!).

See, what your fancy “stats” can’t measure is the intangible toughness and field-smarts of my fantasy teams. Sure, we’re not lighting up the scoreboard like certain other unnamed (and decidedly un-clutch) teams, but that’s simply because, like a starting pitcher in baseball, we “pitch to the score” to conserve energy and prevent injuries. We’re 28-20 overall across four leagues, which is one of the better marks on the SDMB and the \*only \*measure that means anything. If you had ever left your mother’s basement and actually played on a fantasy football team, you’d understand this.

I thought that Points Scored only referred to points put up by the opposing offense, but if they’ve scored it differently than I was probably wrong.

No, you are not charged for defensive points scored, only points scored against the defense and special teams. Expect a stat correction with 100% certainty.

That makes sense, but I’ve never paid attention to it before as it’s never been an issue.

Doesn’t really change much anyway, I guess, as all a correction would do is create a tie, and I play the guy who I’m currently tied with (but would be 1/2 game up on with a correction) in the final week of the season for the division title.

I did look up a random game from a few weeks ago in which an INT was returned for a TD and it appears that the defense was penalized for it, so I hope you’re right 🙂

Do you not use yahoo?

[Why is the “Points Allowed” category for a defense different than the final score?](http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/sports/fantasysports/football/scoring/football-75.html)

> [@](#):
>
> In Yahoo! Sports Fantasy Football, scoring for the Points Allowed category in leagues using Team Defenses include the following situations:[ol]
> [li]All TDs scored against the defense.[/li][li]All FGs scored by the opponent.[/li][li]All PATs (Extra Points and 2-PT conversions).[/li][li]Special Teams Scoring (kickoff and punt returns for touchdowns, as well as blocked punts returned for TDs).[/li][li]All other scoring categories chosen within the league.[/ol][/li] **Please Note:** Points scored against the team’s offensive unit (e.g., interception and fumble returns for TDs, FG blocks returned for Touchdowns, and safeties) are **not** counted in the Points Allowed category.

No, sadly. This league is on ESPN.

I can’t find any mention in any of the rules about INT returns counting against the D/ST, though neither can I find any mention of them not counting.

Haven’t been able to find a link to contact them to report possible stat corrections, either, but I’ll keep looking.

That’s strange. See, the points of the interception return (6) aren’t counted against the D/ST, but the points of the point after that comes after that are. I lost a game that way, when that one extra point was enough to drop me into a lower scoring category. Shittiest way to lose a game ever.

But the scoring categories are 14-20 and 21-27, which should put you solidly in the 14-20 camp. Are you sure you’re counting it right?

Edit: Woops, my post just assumed yahoo. Check ESPN’s rules. Seems silly if they don’t do the same though.

I used to find that really annoying as well, having been cheated out of a shut-out twice that way. 1 point allowed? One?!

But I recently realized that it isn’t a DEF, it’s a DEF/ST. Extra points are absolutely the responsibility of the special teams, so it is right and proper, IMO.

I mean, technically you’re right, but extra points are like 99%+ gimmes even if you have great special teams, so it doesn’t feel right to penalize them for them. Very rarely does even the best special teams unit stop one.

On the other hand, it feels fine to punish them for extra points off touchdowns that are scored by the offense, because it’s their fault that they’re in the position to have a 99%+ successful play scored against them. But in the case of a pick 6, it’s not really their fault.

I mean, I can see both sides of this, I just don’t like it. And I’ve lost a game by that one point counted against my team DEF/ST in a shutout where they deserved to be scored for the shutout IMO.

Seems like there ought to be a new system for defensive scoring. One that is linear and is say -2 points for a TD and -1 for a FG and disregards PATs entirely. This would lead to a lot of negative points scores which would need to be accounted for but it probably makes more sense than the 0-6/7-13/14-24/25-35/35+ tiered scoring gimmick.

I dunno, that’s a pretty tangible reason. My long-time money league (been in since 2002) is leaving [NFL.com](http://NFL.com) for the first time after this season because they changed the interface.

They used to share everything with [CBSsportsline.com](http://CBSsportsline.com), and it was great. All kinds of neat little features.

The new system is totally fucking useless; I went to look up whether defensive touchdowns still counted and discovered _they don’t publish the scoring rules anymore_ (except “1 point per 25 passing yards” and so on).

ETA: We even stayed on [NFL.com](http://NFL.com) for 2003-2005 when you had to _pay._ The live scoring was just that much better.

This is fair. For my own personal feeling, I like that the only way to score a fantasy shutout is to pitch and actual, honest-to-god shutout. I’d feel dirty getting credit for the shutout if the opposing team actually scored a touchdown. Getting credit for allowing 1 point seems like the perfect answer in that spot. Again, that’s just personal preference.
