It was never made clear. But there are several possible reasons. First off, we have never seen one or both of them talk to the police - regardless of whether their mother or her “advisor” was present.

If you were their mother, would you want your sons talking to the cops?

Remember, she has said that, “I’ve taken shits that I would rather live with than those two.”

I doubt she would trust them very much to talk to the cops or anyone else.

After all, several people have made aspersions that one or both of them are mentally defective - or at least very stupid.

If you think Lester’s wife was capable of giving damaging info to the police, those two morons could do much worse.

The sons have talked to the police, sort of. Right after Sam’s murder, but Molly was really just talking to the wife (remember, she went and tackled one of them) and this was long before there was any kind of connection. In fact, I’m sort of surprised, with all her legwork she hasn’t gone back and talked to any of them to see if they know of a connection. Molly has no idea if they knew each other beforehand so talking to Sam’s family would shed some light on that. The wife probably knew nothing of it, but the kid’s would spill their guts, I think.

Right. But why wouldn’t the police interview them about what he was doing on his last day alive and if they knew anyone with a grudge? It’s a huge oversight.

I think they were just barking up the wrong tree. Bill decided it was a weapons thing and he went down to the shop. The kids probably didn’t think anything of him bullying someone, he seems like the kinda jackass that probably did that often enough that it was a normal part of life and Bill didn’t ask about it. Also, didn’t one son hush up the other one at some point?

I didn’t catch the conversation on the tape…I think I was focusing on the cool briefcase setup. Can you help with it?

re the $100k… I also thought that was a bit low. Hopefully it was **plus** expenses.

I agree that $100,000 seemed low, given the amount of time and trouble he’s put into this hit. And the target is in the Witness Protection Program, so I’d expect a surcharge for that. Perhaps Malvo so loves his work that he’s willing to do this job for less?

Something like a phone call from someone whose life was ruined, presumably by Malvo’s actions, the guy describing how miserable he is, and the call ends with a gunshot-sound.

When Malvo was in Lou’s diner and about to leave he told Lou thanks for the pie, that he’d not had pie that good since the Garden of Eden (or something like that).

Regarding the pictures Molly gets next week, at one point the elevator opens, Lester is standing right there (with two bloody spots on the wall) and Malvo leans over to peer down the hall. I suspect that’s the picture Molly’s going to get. That puts Lester, Malvo, blood and two corpses all in once nice picture.

If they had that picture, Lester would already be arrested. She will probably get a picture of Malvo and then Lester going into the same elevator from the lobby. That’s all she needs. She already has other pictures of Malvo on her bulletin board.

I’m working on the assumption that Lester was out of Vegas by the time hotel security (or probably housekeeping since they were in the dumpster) found the bodies, watched the footage, tracked Lester back to his room, checked with the desk to see who that was and called Bimidji PD. Even then, with that picture, seeing a bunch of dead bodies, I don’t think, would get you arrested. Even if they have the actual murder on camera, he still didn’t do it, he’s a witness. In a normal case, he’d probably be safe, just treated as someone who got scared and ran home. But here, this strengthens Molly’s case against him because it’s yet another thing that ties him to Malvo.

Oh, they’ll also have footage of him approaching Malvo beforehand in the bar. Body language will make it clear that he knew him ahead of time.

I don’t think that at some point in the final episode he’ll, you know, pull out a magic wand, or levitate, or grow visible horns or anything. I wouldn’t be shocked if he continue to have timing and luck and ability-to-manipulate that are just a little bit too good, and motivations that remain unexplained other than a desire to do mischief… some collection of traits which fit perfectly with him being a dybbuk or the equivalent, and not all that well with him being a plain normal human.

Agreed, **Max**. Surviving the Fargo mob-lair shootout, killing 22 people - many if not all of whom were armed - but not having a scratch on you, is otherwise simply incredible.

> I have no idea what you are saying.

I don’t believe the supernatural interpretation. In the discussion following E7 some people were saying some events were too unbelievable and didn’t make sense. I said similar events made sense to those teaching and accepting The Bible - case in point the raining fish. Malvo was, of course, pushing the biblical connection because he had Supermarket King believing in all that, the fact nature then rained fish on him was like icing on his mentally disordered cake.

As I’ve made pretty clear, imo this drama is not about the supernatural. On occasion I guess you might argue it’s leaned towards magic realism (a couple of Malvo’s escapes and the 22 dead), but that all imo: ‘leaned’.

Yep, pretty much as **C K Dexter Haven** says:

You did this to me … I had a wife, a family, then you said things, troubled me up, I listened to you and now they’re dead. Why did I listen you you \<police sirens at the other end\>, tell my wife I love her \<bang\>.

I guess he killed his kids. It’s the classic Malvo MO of creating dilemma, choices and consequences: “Aces!”

Still cracks me up that he has that tape collection.

I don’t think $100,000 was the fee for the murder.

I can’t quite get what he says, “… plus $100,000 _something_ down the toilet”, where _something_ sounds like ‘ballet’ (but presumably can’t be). Maybe it was to do with the set up, maybe his fiancee or something…

ETA: maybe he’s calling the whole 6-month set up a ‘ballet’.
