KC told them it was going to be war, you don’t take ten guys armed to the teeth to go hunting. The twins with shotguns certainly weren’t there to bag a buck.
You are correct, of course. No one uses a shotgun to hunt for bucks. But I wonder how many people really care very much about factual details re the reality of this show. After all, every week the show begins with a real big lie about it being based on real events. Do you much care about that? I sure don’t.
Personally, I’m delighted to allow the producers to take a pass when it comes to reality. I know that is not the best approach. But if they need or want to cut a few corners from time to time, it doesn’t bother me. Especially since the result is one of the best TV productions I have ever seen.
OMG! I just realized that tonight’s the night! Yippee!
But … Oh no! The season is now half over. What in the world will I do when it’s over? It’s approx a 42 week wait until the next season. So sad about that. Hopefully The Americans will start it’s next season shortly after Fargo’s season is over. Or perhaps the Game of Thrones? One of them should be coming up fairly soon. At least I sure do hope that is the case.
Given this season is halfway done, I wonder if it might be appropriate now for some people in this thread to make some predictions. I’m willing to go out on a limb and predict that of all the major cast members, by the end of the season only 2 or 3 will remain alive. We know that Lou will make it. Although wouldn’t it just be a real hoot if … heh heh heh.
And the aliens? I wonder! Wouldn’t it be something if the aliens abducted either Peggy or her boss? They both seem like real crazies to me. I wonder if the Aliens wouldn’t want to take them back to their home planet to study them. Good representatives of the human race? Yes? No?
The aliens need to make themselves known at some point. Don’t they? I’d love for them to abduct Dodd and do a bunch of medical experiments on him before they go back to their Home Planet.
So, who else will live past the end of this season? Probably Bear and maybe Dodd too. After all, it’s like Sansa said, “the worst ones always come back”. One of the cops besides Lou will probably live. I would guess the cop who took Lou out to the Gerhardt place would be a good choice to live. And traitor daughter Simone. She is just too great a character to die. I will never forget Flower Rain Blossom. Is that what she called herself? Whatever it was, it was just perfect for her.
Here is a site with the names of all the Gerhardts:
One interesting quote from that site:
<snip> (Dodd) and his henchman, Ohanzee Dent (Zahn McClarnon) are hatching a plan to wrest control of the operations from Floyd; because a woman can’t run a crime syndicate, obvi. <snip>
Is Ohanzee really in on this plan? I don’t know. He is a great character. The word “inscrutable” comes to mind. He is the perfect character to be described by that word.
KC said if they didn’t take the offer - then it would be war (we’ll wipe every last Gearheart from the map) - but at that moment - there were still negotiations on the table (as far as KC was concerned)
I agree that the the extra firepower was there - likely in case of an attack - but the purpose of that tromp in the woods was hunting deer - “Now lets go bag a deer”.
You also wouldn’t take the KC Chief to the front lines -
Whats unclear is what he sent Milligan to do - something about a little house keeping.
Really? Ever heard of BUCKshot?
whether legal or not, a shotgun loaded with with ‘slugs’ – solid pieces instead of ‘shot’ – is sometimes used. Rifles are, of course, more accurate at distance than shotguns, but at close range, the power of a shotgun ‘slug’ is, I suppose, a bit like a uranium bullet.

My point was that the two brothers in pork pie hats and trench coats carrying pump shotguns were not there to hunt. They and the other guys were there to provide security while Garrett hunted with the crooked politician, but they weren’t really expecting an attack and they got jumped.
I got that and think that you are exactly correct.
nm…
You are correct, of course and I was wrong again. I suppose I should have spoken more carefully.
Perhaps I should have said that I would think almost no one hunts deer with a shotgun. Or maybe I’m just digging myself further into this hole?
There are a lot of areas where a shotgun is the only legal firearm for deer hunting. Areas of dense population are one since a shotgun slug will fall to the ground before travelling much more then 100 yards and a high power rifle round can travel a mile or more.
A bit. In Massachusetts, the only firearms allowed for deer hunting are shotguns or single shot, black powder rifles. Shotguns are much more prevelent.
Well, tonights episode did not disappoint -
“My daddy called me a whore”
“Well, technically—”
But I tell you - I just about turned it off - such foul language was uttered - in response to
“Any last words you want to tell him before I kill him?”
Yeah - <long pause>
Kiss my grits!
Nick Offerman was fucking awesome tonight.
Him scrambling with the bench in front of the doors was great.
What happens to Dodd? Did she kill him?
Did the KC gang kill everyone in the house?
I don’t know why. But I had a big smile on my face all through this episode.
It was so satisfying to see Dodd get beat up by his younger brother.
Then it was also so satisfying to see him get beat by Peggy. And when he shot one of his own people, it was just great because he thinks he is such a big shot tough guy.
Best line of the night? “I could fill a steamer trunk with all kinds of the stupid I think you are.” (paraphrasing). I just howled at that. Wasn’t that fantastic?
I’m guessing someone in the house was killed. If it was Floyd and Dodd figures he will be the boss now, it should be very interesting. Either he will be responsible for the destruction of his family or there will be a war between the brothers and Bear has shown himself to be much smarter and more suited to leading than Dodd ever was.
If the brothers do war with each other, it should be a lot of fun.
I just wish Bear wasn’t so filthy all the time. Hard to respect a leader who doesn’t know about keeping clean.
All in all, a very satisfying episode for me. I hope Dodd lives. He is a clown and it will be fun to watch it dawn on him that he is not at all suited to lead his family and in fact, if he tries, he will likely be responsible for destroying them all. I sure would love to see that.
Second best line of the night? “You’re a little touched. Aren’t you?” So great.
Wow, the Gerhardts are really bad at being criminals.
‘I do believe I soiled myself’
Completely out of their depth, it’s like when a hot pitcher in the minor leagues gets to the bigs and gets lit up. KC is playing a completely different game.
This show just keeps ratcheting up the tension and you think it’s finally going to break, but it keeps building. I thought for sure that Ted Danson was a dead man.
“Your a little touched aren’t you?” Best line of the episode.
Great episode! I’m positive that Ted Danson’s character is not going to make it to the end of the series, and thought he was a goner for sure in this one.
Is the Indian guy’s name Hanzee or Ohanzee? Anyway, I know he was tracking Lou and “The Butcher” but I thought it was odd that when Bear’s crew left the police station there was no mention of him or of leaving him behind.
“Man of Constant Sorrow” playing over the credits was a nice touch.
