Think of every place you’ve ever considered “home.” Take the two that are the farthest distance apart. How far is it? Mine is about 130 miles, but only because of one semester at an ill-fitting college. Otherwise it’s just 25 miles. ---

Between the town I grew up in in northern Indiana, to the house I owned in northeast North Carolina is roughly 800 miles. ---

5,570 miles from El Paso, TX to Heidelberg, Germany. Both locations were military assignments. If I count time deployed for a month or more I can get 6,261 (Ft. Irwin, CA to Bosnia). ---

3000 miles for me (East & West Coasts of the US). I was on the West Coast for only a year, but it was my home during that year. ---

1280 from Sarasota to Ithaca. Palm Bay and Sarasota to other places in Upstate NY are pretty close contenders as well. I’ve never lived in any intervening states, although I’ve lived in 6 different towns between the two states. ---

About 4300 miles. Kansas City MO to Cambridge UK. ETA: I didn’t really consider Cambridge “home”, though, I guess. I was there studying for a year. Kansas City to New York City is about 1200 miles, and both of those cities were more or less home at one time. ---

**5,884 miles** from Monterey, CA (where I was born) to Augsburg, Germany (where my younger brother was born). If we’re only counting places we remember, though, it would be **3,517 miles** from Glen Burnie, MD (where I more-or-less grew up) to Pateley Bridge, England (where I spent the equivalent of 7th and 8th grades). ---
