Well, the white fluffy stuff has accumulated for a couple of inches. This looks pretty, but raises a dilemma: I _was_ thinking I’d give the chip shop a second chance to offer me salt and vinegar, but it’s a little too far to walk and still get home with hot food, and clearing the snow off the car to drive two streets away (the road looks fine- it’s only just freezing and they were adequately gritted) seems a bit daft even to me. Despite the conversation here, I don’t really feel like beans on toast, I don’t have a whole lot else easy in, and the kitchen’s too full of people to allow proper cooking, but a proper takeaway is a bit expensive, due to minimum orders for delivery. \* Assumes position of woe and indecision \* ---

I miss Bojangles biscuits and chicken from my time in NC. “Mmmmm Bo-honglays” And east Carolina BBQ. Other than that, North Cackalakey can suck it. ---

I’ve done little so far today besides check my email, read the news, etc. I’ve noticed I’m having a harder time reading lately. It’s definitely not that my arms aren’t long enough, so I’m not sure what’s going on. My eyes are red and a little sore, but I think that’s the usual problem (iritis/early rejection) and unrelated. I’ve bumped up the steroid drops on my own and am hoping to avoid a trip to the eye clinic. I just can’t figure out why my reading vision has worsened. Aside from my distaste for beans, I never quite understood beans on toast. My failing, I’m sure, but beans on bread seems so starchy, like eating bread topped with…bread. Dinner tonight will be Italian style pasta. We have some Johnsonville sweet Italian sausages and home-made pasta sauce thawing even as we speak. If we had spaghetti, it’d be spaghetti, but we have some kinda pasta out in the storeroom, so what will be, will be. Unless we go to the store. All y’all be careful out there. ---

It’s ok, it’s the weekend. I’ve cleaned off my car twice in the past 18hours and will need to once more after Harriet is down to sleep and the Super Bowl is over. Which means an average of once 8 hours. Hopefully **shoe** is getting less snow, especially if she has to work outside in it today. It is beautiful snow at least-very fluffy and dreamy fairy tale style. It’s the wind chill that’ll get you. Mine might reach -30•40 below during the night, with a middle schooler for me to drive early Monday morning. Having a lovely day with Hattie. Reading books for hours~the library put together a lovely book bundle for us, she’s reveling in the snowy theme. Post lunch we are snuggling on the couch in the basement while she watches Land Before Time episodes on YouTube. It would be even better if **FCMoooommm** and her Roxstar were here but the drive would be a bit much. My daughter Emily has made gluten free puppy chow for us as our 🏈🏈🏈 snack, customized with little pretzels and Reese’s pieces. That has been a favorite of hers since she was Hattie’s age. It’s fun that now she can make it for herself and just the way she likes it. Her husband, or dear SIL, likes anything that fits in his hand or a bowl so all will be happy. ---

Snow stopped then started again, but it looks to be tapering off again, just as the radar forecast predicted. I saw a plow go down our side road - maybe it was spreading sand, because near as I could tell, there was no accumulation. It’s all just slushy. As for my inlaws, I understand their desire for independence - I truly do. But it’s the denial of reality that makes me crazy. He’ll be 91 next month, she’ll be 90 in June. They’ve both got pacemakers. She’s almost blind, he’s almost deaf, she can’t drive (duh) and his reaction time and general awareness is just about shot. I fear they’ll kill themselves and someone else while driving, all because of this stubborn independent streak. OK, not gonna dwell on it any more. I tread the mill for an hour. My mom called when I was close to the end. Among other things, she said that assuming COVID is under control and we’ve all been shot by this summer, she plans to host Christmas in July, complete with a turkey. (She was inventorying her chest freezer and found 2 turkeys and a ham, among other things. She still shops like she’s feeding a family of 7!) Anyway, I’ve got that to look forward to. Apart from hanging the pictures, I also finally picked the chicken carcass. I’ve got a large container of chopped up chicken in the freezer. Assuming **FCD** can convince his folks to come, I’ll make a big chicken-n-dumplings dinner. And if they don’t come, I’ll make 2 smaller casseroles. Supper tonight will be tuna steak and salad. _Oho_ - and look! The sun is peeking out! Let the melting and drying begin!!! ---

Nevertheless, any jeweller/watch repairer should be able to do it fairly inexpensively. I think there’s a lever under the watch back to set the speed. Pretty simple, and s/he can replace the O-ring too. Cleaning? No idea what’s involved; but an independent shop shouldn’t be too dear. ---

Survived the cold-ass day. Many, many layers, two pairs of socks, etc. and we rotated frequently so nobody had to be outside for too long. I absolutely love my Sunday crew - everyone communicates well & looks out for one another. In fact, one of them made a big pot of bean soup (because it’s nearly impossible to make any other kind) and brought in plenty to share. So I had a bowlful at lunch and got sent home with more. Oooh, a sudden rat buyer! An extra five bucks appears in my wallet. How fortuitous, given that 1.) I don’t like eating the same thing in a row, and 2.) I’ll get off irk late enough tomorrow that nothing besides Taco Bell will still be open. So, having had some bean soup for lunch, imma leave the rest for tomorrow, and will shortly duck out into the snowy cold for Chinese takeout. There’s some sort of sports event tonight, it appears, so hopefully the roads and restaurant will both be quiet. ---

Wow. Not only was the restaurant absolutely dead, their neon sign wasn’t even lit up. I pointed it out when I came in & someone hurried over to fix it, but 1.) dude, the dinner rush is long over, and 2.) you can totally see that the sign is lit up & blinking from inside. So, you should be able to tell when it ain’t. I worry for them & do not foresee a lengthy future for that business, which is a damn shame considering how delicious and cheap their BBQ pork is. … which is another thing: when a big bowlful of pork is priced cheaper than the potsticker appetizer, your pricing is waaayyy messed up. Another reason I don’t anticipate their long-term survival. Meanwhile, I’m more than happy to throw them some business. They’re much closer than the sushi place, which is, like, almost ten whole minutes away. I _know,_ right?!? Now, chillage will ensue. I found a show on Netflix that’s kinda like “Chopped” but the whole thing focuses on & revolves around using leftovers in creative and tasty new ways. Wow, it’s almost like I could totally use this in my daily life … ! ---

Some erranding and minor housework, but the big project today was dealing with backed-up shredding, since DH had recently acquired a pretty much industrial shredder at the thrift store he currently works in. Two overheats and seven or eight trips to the dumpster with full bins later (plus our older, more home-grade shredder deciding it had had it, so IT went to the dumpster), and we’re basically current. One small pile of paper is taunting me a bit. Must decide how motivated I feel about that, since I also need to move laundry and do something about feeding us (a frozen pizza is the most likely option, after baking it). ---
