I ONLY do this at work, because if I wear one of my comfy long dresses, I have to have comfy shoes, and I’m not allowed to wear sandals. Besides, I’m behind a counter, so who cares?

I suspect most of the people who wear sneakers with business attire though are people who are just commuting, and change their shoes at work-I can’t say I blame them.
And I wear flares because they look GOOD on me. Same with SLIGHT platform shoes-just a little bit of a stack heel, so I’m not a midget. Also, I’m curvy, but I look good in capris.

Stuff I hate:
Those fake colored hair ponytail holders-my sister has one…ick
The glittery snakeskin print jeans
shell suits
mullets
teased, sprayed, tousled poufed bangs and hair-go back to the 80s!
the dark lipliner with the pale lipstick-that just looks really really really gross
ditto on penciled in eyebrows…yech
tech vests
the urban skater look…
guys with short spiked and bleached hair…ugh!
fuzzy mustaches on guys…it looks gross most of the time
leopard print
the all one color face-bronze bronze and beige…with bleached hair, of course!

Specifically in fashion now and hated: Big honkin’ black leather thick soled Frankenstein boots. Extra fashion victim points if you’re wearing them with a skirt.

Always hated on general principles: Fringe. Only if you’re name is Tonto, my friend.

Nothing says “I’m an illiterate moron” more than a cap on backwards. Puffy insulated “Official NFL” sport jackets come a close second.

Ah, but I have a lovely white long wrap shawl with fringe on the sides…just like the one from “Titanic”…it’s gorgeous…

Okay, I have to clarify (because I too have a fringed shawl that is fabulous in an Edwardian way): _American Indian inspired_ fringe – you know, across your chest or down both arms of your leather jacket. No no no no no.

[li]Sun visors worn backwards and upside down look incredibly stupid and serve absolutely no purpose.[/li]
[li]Jeans that have such wide legs that the people wearing them can hardly walk without holding them up while they walk. Whats the point of wearing them?[/li]
[li]Pants that are so baggy that the person wearing them has to continuously pull them up so they don’t fall off. Again, whats the point?[/li][/ul]

“I suspect most of the people who wear sneakers with business attire though are people who are just commuting, and change their shoes at work—I can’t say I blame them.”

—Well, I blame them. So the thousands of people who see them out on the street wearing nice skirts with big puffy marshmallow shoes don’t count? Feh, I say! There are so many healthy, comfy walking shoes with low or flat heels that wearing gym shoes in public is never necessary. I wear nice, soft leather flats to walk to work; they cost less than most sneakers.

. . . Of course, if you’re wolfman (see the “Does Clothing Count?” thread), you just walk to work in your torn, stained underwear, spitting on the sidewalk and telling people they’re elitist snobs if they object . . .

Yeah, that guy sucks. If he came to my weding like that he’d get punched.

Anyhow, fashions I hate:
-Glitter makeup
-Dressing like a celebrity (ie Red hat/black T like Fred Durst or White T/Cargo pants/blond Ceaser cut like Eminem)
-Programmer geek uniform of skateboard sneakers, jeans, and a Sybase or Microsoft shirt
-As a matter of fact, any corporate logo dress or polo shirt (as in a General Dynamics or Dell logo, not like a designer label)
-Leather pants on men (unless you are a rock star and you are in the process of performing a concert, you should not be in leather pants)
-Cargo shorts that are Capri-length
-Sean John clothing
-I’ve only seen on TV but…T shirts with a NYC subway train letter (A, R, etc) and the route underneath (Uptown-Bronx, etc)
-$30 Abercrombie & Fitch T-shirts that look like the tatered rec basketball T-shirts my brother still has from 8th grade.

Well, I must say that being a high school senior (yay!!!) this year, there are several fashions that I have noticed, and I hate. The primary one is the way most guys dress. The surfer-type preppie look. Bright colored shirts, flip-flops (they are AMAZINGLY popular this year) and those awful hats that are bent to hell.

Despite my hate for most dress styles, I must say that a particualar style has surfaced this year, and I like it. I suppose it started last year, but girls started buying these really, REALLY low-cut shirts, but they would wear a second shirt under them. Well THIS year, many of these same girls are wearing those shirts without the under shirt, and it tends to be pretty awesome. [sup]I know, I know, sexist pig, whatever[/sup]

You don’t need to apologize. They’re wearing it that way to get your attention. 🙂

Well, like I said, where I work, I have to wear sneakers-not nice dress flats because being on my feet for 8 hours at a time sometimes will KILL my feet-I need good gym type shoes. But then, I’m behind a counter.

Let me tell you something I hate. I live in a very rural area, surrounded by farms (and I live on a farm). I see kids walking around town dressed like a bunch of gangbangers. They wear big baggy pants, oversize shirts, those really shiny jackets that look like a huge baked potato (I think made by Fila). Now I’m talking about a county where the black population is approximately 8! They drive around in cars with blacked out windows, listening to really, really, loud rap music. Now if a black guy that was really from the inner city of Chicago saw any of these guys lookin’ like this, they’d die from laughing! And another thing, and this is the stupidest thing of all- they’re all extremely racist! They hate black people! Why in the hell would they steal their whole lifestyle from somebody they hate? What, are they gonna get into a gang war with the FFA? There’s nothing I hate more than when white people pretend to be black. Every time black people come up with something original, white people steal it. I can imagine black people getting P.O.ed when every time they come up with something original, and then see some white med student walkin’ around lookin’ like an idiot.

I have a few:
[ul]
[li]Almost anything Abercrombie & Fitch. If I wanted torn up, preppy clothes, I go to Goodwill and run them over a few times with the car. And the prices?! Oy![/li][li]Bell bottoms. Nope, refuse to do them. Ick.[/li][li]Guys’ pants that show 2-3" of their underwear. If your pants look like I could pull them down with a good, swift pull, they’re too loose. Hint to guys: most women are not turned on by the site of your undies hangin’ out the back of your pants.[/li][li] Second (or third) on the “Princess”, “Diva” etc. t-shirts. It’s usually false advertising.[/li][li] Age inappropriate clothing. 12-year olds looking like Britney? Oh, my achin’ back![/li] The visor-on-backwards thing. There’s a couple girls on a team we compete against in softball that do this. They think they’re the hottest thing that’s come off the conveyer. Dorks.[/ul]

I don’t know if this is a genuine fashion or just something the British tabloids are pushing, but you can’t open one of them without seeing a picture of the latest celebrity starlet wearing jeans with the waist cut off to expose her thong underwear. “Tacky” doesn’t begin to describe it.

Also, pretty much anything Posh Spice wears is going to be seriously naff.

</div>

In comparison to most of you guys, I think I’m pretty accepting of different fashions. There are a couple I do hate though.

Gotta agree about socks with sandals. Even worse is socks with flipflops, which I’ve seen a few times. But these really aren’t fashions so much as mistakes.

Also, I’ve noticed European tourists around here that wear soccer shorts, dark socks and white sneakers. Is this some sort of revenge for the sort of visitors the US is known to send over there?

The aforementioned combination of business dress and gym wear is pretty tacky, but more a lack of fashion than a bad fashion. The only excuse I can see for wearing sneakers with a suit is if you are on a bicycle, but even then, the shoes should be changed at the same time you take the helmet off.

There’s one that seems to be a recent development, that’s apparently really popular among young women who know and care about style, and that no one has mentioned in this thread yet. I’m speaking of tops that only cover one shoulder. Sort of a modern Wilma Flintstone look. When the hell did this start happening?

And then there are the guys who chain their wallets to their jeans pocket. You’ll never see this fashion choice from someone without a mullet.
