I understand that the AMA is so impressed by this success rate they’re considering turning cancer treatment, brain-surgery, and psychiatric counseling over to lay-people and faith-healers, too. My point is–don’t try to argue with herd-beliefs–even when the herd is exceptionally intelligent. 1. Remember the Truths I mentioned above. 2. Don’t rock the boat or you’re a troll. 3. I don’t necessarily think that assuming someone who’s 400+ pounds or so is that way because of their own decisions is necessarily a sign of an evil and vindictive personality. But that’s probably because I’ve seen plenty of obese people where I live and I doubt that anything like 100% of them have a genetic disposition to weight gain or a naturally stocky frame. In my case, it was a combination of factors. When I was a skinny kid, I injured my knee while playing (tackle) football. I learned how to deal with it. When I was a slim adult, I was put on bed rest, repeatedly, for months at a time. Nothing to do with the bad knee, but this sure didn’t help matters, as my metabolism adjusted to bedrest. Each time I was put on bed rest, I gained weight. Each time I was switched to a new medication, I gained weight, except for this last time, when I lost weight. Each time I had to take another round of steroids (which I needed to breath for some years), I gained weight. Et cetera, et cetera. Nobody goes to bed skinny and wakes up fat. Becoming fat usually takes years, and losing a significant amount of weight also takes years. Gaining just one pound a week can result in a gain of a hundred pounds in a couple of years. Because of medical issues, I started having to get blood drawn when I was 15 or so. When I was a skinny kid, and slim adult, my veins were impossible to find and get blood from. Now that I’m fat, the only complaint that the techs have about me is that I usually need half a dozen vials or more vials drawn at a time. I had to have an IV on Tuesday, and the tech said that she could see the vein before she even put a tourniquet on it. I am not now, nor have I ever been, on any sort of government assistance program. I have pretty good private insurance. I pay dearly for it, but at least I have it. > [@Tamara+](#): > > Don’t people read books during waiting times? Cite??? Because alcoholics are INDEED treated by doctors. I’d also like a cite for that 5%, you goddamned piece of shit. No one is saying there’s no personal responsibility involved in alcoholicism or any other addiction. That doesn’t mean it’s NOT a disease, shithead. As for people being fat because they eat too much? Yes, many are. So what? It’s not like it’s any of your business, and that nurse should be fired for violating HIPAA. I still want to see YOUR picture. Let’s see your handsome visage. ---
