DBZ isn’t a game series - there’s a couple games based on IT, but it’s based on a manga, which is, in turn, based upon, variously, the Monkey King legends and Superman comics.
Ages ago there used to be a list circulating on Usenet and private e-mail to this effect (quotes like “All cities are combustible, but none more so than Tokyo”). Anybody have a link?
Beautiful, tragic story. I’ve rented the OVA, but I can’t find the manga anywhere. I am enjoying the X/1999 manga, though. Subaru actually lasts awhile.
As for the two guys hugging each other, I’m convinced that’s why they changed the original cassette cover for Neon Genesis Evangelion, as well as mangled the translation.

It’s the lost cliché – they think nobody wants to hear about the two guys in love, so they tend to vanish when they get translated.
I’ve only read Tokyo Babylon manga translations online…I found scans once, but they’re a bit of a pain to flip back and forth between. But I agree, very tragic story.
And the tape cover isn’t too scandalous, as Subaru doesn’t look much like a guy until X/1999. But still…
And this is more of an anime fanfiction cliche, but always, the two guy friends are gay unless the token girl of the series is tolerable. So, it’s just the companies trying to get rid of gay characters. The fans are all for it!
