Grendel (from the book Grendel, as opposed to the Beowulf version). And I’ll second Richard III. “Why, I, in this weak piping time of peace,/ Have no delight to pass away the time,/ Unless to spy my shadow in the sun,/ And descant on mine own deformity.” So cool.

Hmmm…I already mentioned Satan, how 'bout God in the Bible? He’s the main character.

[http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0679743685/104-7683403-2847130?v=glance](http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0679743685/104-7683403-2847130?v=glance)

And even though He does some terrible things, you just gotta love Him. I mean…ya gotta

Do you mean _James_ Bolivar DiGriz, the Stainless Steel Rat? He’s a definite good guy. 😉

All these anti-heroes and no one has mentioned Angel yet? He may not be a really obvious anti-hero all the time but there’s moments like in “Reprise” where

He just can’t seem to care and lets the entire Special Projects division of W&H get killed by Darla and Drusilla

and in the last episode, Not Fade Away:

He kills Hamilton by vamping out and _drinking his blood_ and then breaking his neck.

Yes, I’m sorry I mean James Bolivar Digriz. It has been a while since I read a Good book featuring The Rat.
I think any hero who would rather lie on the beach, while drinking scotch, that he bought with stolen money, falls into the anti-hero category.

[Hot Rod](http://www.bwtf.com/tfg1/tvshow/tftm/day3/13.jpg)/[Rodimus Prime](http://www.bwtf.com/tfg1/tvshow/tftm/day5/31.jpg) (Judd Nelson) in _[Transformers: The Movie](http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092106/)_ (1986). He may not have been an anti-hero in the sense that he was a “bad-ass”, but he was definitely an anti-hero in the sense that he wasn’t much of a hero until he opened the “Deus ex [Matrix](http://www.bwtf.com/tfg1/tvshow/tftm/day5/30.jpg)” to save the day. Heck, [Wheelie](http://www.bwtf.com/tfg1/tvshow/tftm/day4/8.jpg) could have done just as well. 😃

More seriously, [Mara](http://www.darklords.net/mara-c1.jpg) [Jade](http://www.darklords.net/mara-c2.jpg) from Star Wars would be a personal favorite of mine. An anti-hero in the more literal sense of the word. Back to the Transformers universe, [Grimlock](http://vguides.topcities.com/tf/issue32.jpg) was a decent anti-hero… at times.

Anyhoo…

Jesse is a straight-up hero. _Cassidy_ is the anti-hero.

Queen Latifah as Cleopatra Sims in _Set It Off_ – as a spree-killing lesbian is more man than most men reading this.

_South Park_’s Cartman.

Robert DeNiro’s Travis Bickle from _Taxi_ … and as Jack Walsh in _Midnight Run._

TOSS-UP: The Weasley Twins of the Potter novels, and Professor Snape.

You mean Winfield? I don’t think a guy named Winnifred could read bible verses before popping someone with a straight face 🙂 .

Another vote for _Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid_ and Alex from _A Clockwork Orange_.

I’d also like to throw in a vote for Ash from the _Evil Dead_ trilogy: He’s kind of a coward, and in _Army of Darkness_ he’s a selfish ass whose incompetence raises an army of the dead and causes the deaths of a lot of otherwise innocent people.
