# Favorite comic strips you currently read

Yes yes, we all long for the days of Far Side and Calvin and Hobbes. But life moves on and so must we. What do you currently read that you enjoy? My favorites:
**Dilbert:** It almost seems cliche to enjoy this one, but it is still quite humorous. The situations get more and more outrageous and it still seems like office life. He could introduce a 600 pound man who has no head, three arms, and pees when he walks and you’d be sitting there shouting at the comic “I know that guy!”
**For Better or For Worse** : I can understand why some people don’t like it, but I, for one, love it. The characters are so real and it the strips don’t have to have a punch line to make me laugh. I’m the same age as Michael and my sister’s the same age as Elizabeth. I grew up with them and I’m hooked.
**Doonsbury** : sometimes they have an off week, but often times this strip is right on the mark. It’s not that difficult to keep track of the cast of thousands and the political strips are very funny. Of course, not as dead on as…
**This Modern World** : This one is right on the mark when it comes to political commentary. He seems to bash Republicans a tad more than Democrats but no matter what side Tom Tomorrow is going for (or just making fun of the American people as a whole) it’s perfectly written.
**Red Meat** :well, action comic it ain’t. Drawn from his computer and using the same picture in all three panels, you wonder how much effort went into it. But the comic is so disgustingly disturbing, you can’t help but laugh.

My current absolute favorite is [Sluggy Freelance](http://sluggy.com/). I’m even wearing a Sluggy t-shirt as I type this (one of the Evil Kitten/Got milk? shirts). If you’re a geek, or know a geek (Who am I kidding? You’re a Dilbert fan.), you will probably like it. I strongly recommend starting at the beginning of the archive–and plan to be there for hours.

The only one in our local paper (Wisconsin State Journal) that I even like is Fox Trot. It’s strange, I find myself reading the comics every day, but I couldn’t even tell you what some of the other ones on the page are. Most of them are just so forgettable.

The only ones I read on even a semi-regular basis (in _The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal_) are:

Get Fuzzy
The Boondocks
Bizarro** (mostly to find the hidden icons)
They just don’t make them like **The Far Side** and **Calvin and Hobbes** anymore.

There’s one I like now called **Boondocks** about young Blacks stuck in a nearly-white suburb of Chicago and missing the Hood. It’s evolved into more generic social commentary, and may be the next Doonesbury.

AMEN TO THAT! My local paper started carrying it, and all of the blue-hairs are up in arms, because it’s ‘sexist’. (Oh, and I have a signed copies of Cho’s ‘University2’ and his pin-up portfolio ‘Cheesecake and Critters’)
Also - FBOFW, Robotman, Foxtrot, Callahan, Zits…Hell, the list is too numerous to go into. I LOVE the comics.

Goats is my personal fav. It’s unfortunate that when papers carry horribly repetitous strips (Cathy, blech) and re-runs of old peanuts, that a strip as ammusing and strange as Goats is unable to get syndicated. Alas, that’s the case, and hence goats can only be found at [http://www.goats.com](http://www.goats.com).
As a side note, what the hell happened to Dilbert. It used to be my favorite. Now it seems that every strip is just another crack about how stupid the pointed hair boss is. The creator seems to have totally dithed the other storylines and running jokes (like Dogbert’s attempts to take over the world, etc.) Garry Larson and the creator of Calvin and Hobbes had the sense to get out before there strips became stale. I kinda hope Scott Adams goes the same way.

I always start with a daily dose of [Ozy and Millie](http://www.ozyandmillie.org). It has its glitches, but overall I’ve enjoyed it very much. Another vote for **Freefall** and **Mutts** , too.

Garfield, Dilbert, Foxtrot, The Duplex (most consistently funny in our paper, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch…even more than Dilbert!), Zits, Rose is Rose, the Boondocks can be okay when he’s not too overt with his agenda, I’m starting to like Get Fuzzy, Non Sequitur, Sherman’s Lagoon (another always-funny one), Baby Blues, and Red Meat. I don’t know why people hate BC and Wizard of Id so much. Though the religious tones can be annoying, I think they’re often funny.
