Favorite/Hated Star Trek Voyager episodes

msmith537- You left out the one where the ship is taken over by an intruder with no technical knowledge, fortunately missing a single member of the command crew in the process, who then saves the day.

No, really, there were good bits in a lot of Voyager eps, just bad bits in all too many as well. (The warp 10 evolving thing, and the “Let’s escape a black hole through this crack in the event horizon”)

Actually, Voyager was pretty good with this… if I recall correctly, the only piece of continuity was the fact that they kept an accurate count of crew members throughout the show (in numerous episodes, the number of crew aboard the ship is mentioned). Sure, lotsa Red Shirts get WOUNDED in plasma explosions (from a friggin’ KEYBOARD?!?), but rarely does it have someone actually get fragged.

I guess they would have to. Unlike classic ST and the other series, Voyager couldn’t exactly get replacements from Federation HQ.

I love the episode where the ship gets hit by a high powered weapon and the entire force of the bast is transfered to the console which then explodes. What, they have force fields that can repair hull breaches but no surge supperessors?

You left out the one where they ignore the Prime Directive for the billionth time.

Discounting, of course, Shuttlecraft and replacement (Quantum Duplicate) Harry Kims.

Liked:

Doc goes to the Prometheus and takes the ship back from the Romulans. Hokey, but still fun.

Year from Hell pts. 1 and 2. Gotta love those Chronaton torpedoes!

Scorpion, pts. 1 and 2. Pretty good.

All 3 episodes with Q in them.

The one where Tom Paris discovers a ‘holonovel’ on the holodeck of the Maquis crew staging a mutiny against Janeway. Turns out it was Tuvok’s tactical training simulation. Then it gets hijacked by Seska. Hilarity ensues.

The Think Tank episode.

The one where the big space creature makes the crew believe that they’ve found a wormhole, then tries to eat the ship. Great setup and ending.

Macrovirus. I love the Resident Evil games, and this reminded me of that ‘survival horror’ genre.

The one where Kes goes back in time.

The series finale. Good stuff.

Hated:

The Barge of the Dead. Ugh, that was stupid. We’re gonna kill you, no we’re gonna save you, no we’re gonna kill you again! Make up your freaking minds!

The one where 7 of 9 goes through the borg version of multiple personality disorder. BOOOORRRRRIIIIINNNNNGGGGG!

The one where the borg kids are running a cube. I mean, in the last few seasons they had to stretch for a few plots and use the borg a lot more, but this was just ridiculous.

The one where Neelix and Tuvok are stranded on the surface of some planet and have to repair a ‘skylift’ or something, which is basically an oversized escalator that goes into orbit. I HATE that episode.

There were a few more that I can’t remember now, but overall I’ve been a fan of the show. They may have squandered a few of the episodes, but I think they did rather well. (Awaiting ridicule)

People mentioned Year Of Hell several times, and I have to say… I loved the premise. I loved the story. I loved that big friggin’ ship. I even loved the battle at the end.

But, then, I hated it… because it never happened. Yup, that’s their way to resolve this huge, spectacular, amazing, wonderfully crafted episode… it never happened.

I hate those two episodes, simply because they are the epitome of lousy ST writing… they tease us with some good stuff, then disappoint us in the end.

I’m right with you on the “Year of Hell” episodes, SPOOFE. It seemed like interesting things were only allowed to happen to Voyager if they happened in an invalidated timeline, or to an alternate version of the ship/characters, and the “Year of Hell” eps are a prime example.

Gotta disagree with you and others about the episode where the Doctor had to “prove” his personhood. It was a blatant, third-rate knockoff of a similar TNG show where Data had to prove his personhood (titled “The Measure of a Man,” I believe).

In fact, that whole theme of “holographic rights” explored in the seventh season needs to be viewed askance. Despite their sophistication, we were never given a compelling reason why we should think of the Doctor et al. as anything more than vast databases with a cunning interface.

Well I really wanted to like this show. I wanted to care about these characters. For the first season I watched religiously. By the end of the first season I came to two conclusions.

  1. The acting was bad.
  2. The writing was worse.

What really broke the cammel’s back so to speak was not the bad science, uninteresting enemies, and annoying characters. It was the Paris-Janeway slamander love children episode.

For this episode we went to a friends house who was a trekker through and through. He had all the uniforms. He had all the models. He had memmorized hours of dialogue.

Before the episode started I had begun to suspect it would suck. I made a bet with my friend that this would be one of the worst ST episodes ever. As they were showing the final credits my friend handed his bet over.

After the first season I never actively sought to see this program. I saw a few episodes from time to time and while I never again saw it get that bad again, it never really improved, IMHO.
