Favorite Holiday Special?

The second Futurama special had a parental advisory for violent content, which automatically puts it at the top of my list.

The classic Xmas song from that episode is great too:

Bender: I should give you all a beating but I really have to fly!
Santa: If I wasn’t stuck here frozen I’d harpoon you in the eye!
Neptunians: Now it’s back into our tenements to drown ourselves in rye!
Leela: You did the best you could, I guess, and some of these gorillas are OK

Good stuff.

Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol

I know every song and own the video and dvd.
This is the cartoon that made Mr. Magoo a household name.

A Wish For Wings That Work

I also love How the Grinch Stole Christmas and the original Rudolph and Frosty the Snowman

For Halloween, I like the animated Legend of Sleepy Hollow, made sometime in the 60s with Bing Crosby as the narrator. I also like the Garfield Halloween special. (“Yes, we dooooooooooooo!”)

I’m a bit disappointed that there aren’t more Thanksgiving specials, but I still like the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.

At Christmas, we must watch Rudolph, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, A Charlie Brown Christmas, White Christmas, and It’s A Wonderful Life. Optional but fun are Frosty the Snowman, Mr. Willoughby’s Christmas, and Garfield’s Christmas.

Half the fun for me of watching some of these shows is that most of them were videotaped from TV nearly 20 years ago, so we have all the original commercials, weather warnings, and added features (Jonathon Winters as Mr. Pumpkinhead on The Wonderful World of Disney ) to enjoy along with the shows.

Then, for Severe Weather Awareness Week in March, our annual showing of Twister.

Yes, that is a good one. I love the song where the family is singing about what they want for Christmas dinner.

That’s a good one but I think Garfield’s Thanksgiving is better. For live action there’s the movie Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.

I love holiday shows–

Halloween:
The Worst Witch
It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!
and now, of course, the Harry Potter moview

Christmas:
A Charlie Brown Christmas

My favorite is “Claymation Christmas”. Which it appears is now out on DVD. Woo.

Just thought of another one: Yogi’s First Christmas, primarily for the music.

I think it’s supposed to be received that way. I’m a bit odd in getting put off by it.
