Zorg in The Fifth Element
I won’t call it a favorite, but it had a certain shock value:
In Black Robe, a certain character is talking to his companion, when all of a sudden, an arrow appears, seemingly out of thin air, crosswise through his neck, parallel to and just above his shoulders.
The suddeness and finality of it all it quite shocking.
I was always wondering - was that a very wierd space-marinish way to say, “I love you.”?
Okay, I know it’s a book, not TV or movie, so I’ll probably be back later when I get something in the actual category, but…
The first thing that springs to my head is the chapter dealing with the last few minutes of Yamamoto’s life in Stephenson’s Cryptonomicon. The entirety of that plot-section has been dealing with the incredible measures the allies have gone through to make -sure- the axis doesn’t realize they’ve broken Enigma. Yamamoto gets shot down, and as his plane is fireballing into the trees, he realizes with stark, perfect horror that the allies broke the code long ago, and have simply been playing with them. His last thought are that someone must be told this.
Something about it always gave me chills.
