It’s surprising how very few Brando movies are on my Favorites list. (Bogart, Buscemi, De Niro, Keitel, Pitt, Washington and especially Nicholson each appear multiple times.) _Godfather_ is my #2, _Apocalypse Now_ my #39 (without Brando it would be #20). The only other Brando flicks that make my Top 100 are _On The Waterfront_ and _The Score_. And Brando had only a bit part in the otherwise-excellent heist film _The Score_.

Some Brando films, e.g. _Teahouse of the August Moon_, were horrible. I watched _Last Tango in Paris_ only once, decades ago. It didn’t appeal then; maybe I should watch it again.

My wife and I still LOL when 2 boys appear!

“Carmine said one boy, here are two!”

Show of hands if anyone else has even seen this movie: [Désirée](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0046903/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1) (1954). Brando does a great job as the young Napoleon. “In Marseilles, France in 1794, Désirée Clary [Jean Simmons], a young millinery clerk, becomes infatuated with Napoleon Bonaparte, but winds up wedding General Jean-Baptiste Berandotte [Michael Rennie], an aide to Napoleon who later joins the forces that bring about the Emperor’s downfall.”

Brando is great as that cocky upstart Napoleon. [Check him out!](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BNTUyMTgxMzA1NF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTYwMzI3OTE2._V1_.jpg) [And here.](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BMGYwMzBhNzUtNzYzZi00MzVmLWE2M2EtY2Y3OTE1NjI5MTgzXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyMDI2NDg0NQ@@._V1_SY1000_CR0,0,795,1000_AL_.jpg) This was early in Brando’s career. He was only 30.

House of Bernadotte [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/House_of_Bernadotte):

> …Charles XIII [of Sweden] was 61 years old and prematurely senile. He was also childless; one child had been stillborn and another died after less than a week. It was apparent almost as soon as Charles XIII ascended the throne that the Swedish branch of the House of Holstein-Gottorp would die with him. In 1810 the Riksdag of the Estates, the Swedish parliament, elected a Danish prince, Prince Christian August of Augustenborg, as heir-presumptive to the throne. He took the name Charles August, but died later that same year.
>
> At this time, Emperor Napoleon I of France controlled much of continental Europe, and some of his client kingdoms were headed by his brothers. The Riksdag decided to choose a king of whom Napoleon would approve. On 21 August 1810, the Riksdag elected Jean Baptiste Jules Bernadotte, a Marshal of France, as heir presumptive to the Swedish throne.

Yeah, another vote for **Guys and Dolls** , mostly because it’s so different from his usual oeuvre (though I always like watching him). And another thing you don’t expect - he can actually dance a bit (!)

My favorite Brando films are _Guys and Dolls_ and _On the Waterfront…_ but neither is my favorite because of Brando.

It’s hard to separate his performances from great movies. I love The Godfather and his work on it was ok but just serviceable.

His best acting was in One-Eyed Jacks in my humble opinion. Great movie too. Trivia: he directed it!

Also, Brando insisted on wearing the famous Superman symbol on his clothing. This established it in canon that the S within the shield is the symbol of the House of El.
