Granted, they’re an [oft-maligned art form](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mtv#Other_early_criticism). But I like 'em, and come of age to 'em. So, without any further ado, here are some of mine: [“Once in a Lifetime”](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I1wg1DNHbNU) - Talking Heads [“Nothing Compares 2 U”](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUiTQvT0W_0) - Sinéad O’Connor [“True Faith”](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=og1HAkjOuL0) - New Order [“Believe”](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_IkUysQASQ) - Chemical Brothers [“Praise You”](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ULVQOneeZE) - Fatboy Slim [“Come to Daddy”](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWDAtMPoBHA) - Aphex Twin (There shall be more soon.) Yours? ---

This list skews more towards the pop side of my music listening but I think pop acts generally make better music videos than artists in the other genres I like. ---

My absolute favorite is Nine Inch Nails’ [The Perfect Drug](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4SO_tWe4R8). I’ve always wished to see a movie just like that, but so far that sort of stylized gothicism hasn’t shown up in anything full-length that I’ve ever seen. Others I like: Stabbing Westward “[Shame](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CsxaoXHe9Xc)” No Doubt “[Don’t Speak](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TR3Vdo5etCQ)” Vitamin C “[The Itch](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2R9MbivccI0)” Ash “[Girl From Mars](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8hJXLW6kKk)” She Wants Revenge “[Tear You Apart](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixw_bLVUL34)” Bat For Lashes “[What’s A Girl To Do](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EICkZWEzFGE)?” Marilyn Manson “[Tainted Love](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoYmSKdDkW0)” (Grey’s Anatomy fans, watch this one) ---

For all you red-blooded men out there: [spoilered NSFW link] [Massive Attack - Be Thankful For What You’ve Got](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRKRNf3PDdE) A pretty samey version of the William DeVaughan original, but with an interesting video. There’s a long preamble, the show starts about 1min 30secs. ---

Most of my favorite videos are from the '80s. I’m sure I’ll come up with more after I post this, but these are the ones I can think of right now. [“Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This),”](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQ9zycElysU) Eurythmics - I have a mad girl-crush on Annie Lennox in this video, and have since I first saw it in the 80s. [“Right Now,”](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qsx2ueGssf0) Van Halen “Don’t Pay the Ferryman,” Chris DeBurgh (can’t find this one, didn’t look too hard) [“Sledgehammer,”](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1tTN-b5KHg) Peter Gabriel [“Hungry Like the Wolf,”](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJRCE6e2xIg) Duran Duran [“Take On Me,”](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djV11Xbc914&feature=av2n) a-ha [“Jeremy,”](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MS91knuzoOA&feature=av2e) Pearl Jam [“Distant Early Warning,”](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rC0u9MdHA98) Rush [“Billie Jean,”](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVBylP1T88g) Michael Jackson [“Safety Dance,”](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7movKfyTBII) Men Without Hats (I also like the [literal video](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZaiB9jYCxI)version) 🙂 ---

A bunch of my favourites have been mentioned already…some which haven’t… [David Lee Roth - Just a Gigilo/I Ain’t Got Nobody](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lN-4lX0QyZc) [George Harrison - Got My Mind Set On You (The version that doesn’t take place in his haunted study.)](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n29Q-JJzp3U) Unusual in that I only discovered it recently, when someone linked it in a thread here… Alexis and the girl have a great interplay, and George’s bits are delightfully oddball. Quite a few from Tomoko Kawase’s various projects…Some specific examples… [Tommy heavenly6 - Lollipop Candy ❤BAD:heart: Girl](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LWyeYCAQJA) (Get a snack, the song is 10 and a half minutes long, but the short version of the video misses most of my favourite bits.) [Tommy heavenly6 - Heavy Starry Chain](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_gnb35sHDA) [Tommy heavenly6 - I’m Gonna SCREAM+](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WARcMVXcrJk) [Tommy heavenly6 - Wait 'Till I Can Dream](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zO6kjNNd8Q) [Tommy february6 - Bloomin’](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwljUPa05Yo) [Tommy february - Magic in youR Eyes](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tE2z2xIfK_o) [the brilliant green - CALL MY NAME](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SgCWbp3hfbc) [the brilliant green - Enemy](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZVQtGGahh4) _cough_ OK, enough of my Tommy-pimping… ---

Ah, the 80’s, best years of my life! I actually do have a bunch of MTV videos on videocassettes somewhere, I wonder if they’re still playable? I liked everything by David Bowie, Ashes to Ashes especially. Everything by Adam Ant! Everything by Devo! And early in the MTV video days, I remember a song by Kate Bush, The Man With the Child In His Eyes, but it didn’t seem to ‘fit in’ and I thought, well, that’s awkward. I only saw it maybe three times. But that damn song by Kate Bush grew on me, I couldn’t forget it, and that, friends, is how I got to appreciate Kate Bush. (her talent was so obvious). ---

It sounds too exactly the same to be the latter. [Next page](https://boards.straightdope.com/t/favorite-music-videos-of-all-time/549391.md?page=2)
