Another vote for The Farming Game! My grandparents lived in the Yakima Valley where the game is set and sent me a copy when I was about 10. I loved that game, but it almost impossible to convince my Boston friends that Toppenish and Wapeno (which I’m positive I’ve misspelled) were real town names.
Altough the OP asked for non-computer games, this one is now available for Windows (requires a whopping 6MB RAM and 386 processor). I may just order it.
Phouchg, Avalon Hill just rereleased “Acquire.” It’s about $40. You’d have better luck on eBay, where they’re going for about $15 for a pretty good conditioned copy.
Morgyn, the sequel to “Kill Dr. Lucky” is “Save Dr. Lucky”. It’s pretty good - a bit more strategy is involved, but it’s just not the same when you’re trying to kill the old coot.
Currently, I’m playing Pente, Kill Dr. Lucky (and its expansion, “Craigdarroch”), Chrononauts, Fluxx, Twixt and Acquire. Not all at the same time, but you get the picture.
Cosmic Wimpout is a dice game, you just need the dice, a marker, and paper. Or at least the version I have requires only that. Cosmic Encounters is a board game, and I have the reissued edition, PLUS the expansion set. I have also cleverly photocopied the rules, so I have six sets of photocopied rules along with the set that came with the boxes. Since CE is so fiendishly complex, I find that having multiple copies of the rules greatly speeds up the game, as EVERYONE can read the rules at the same time.
And yeah, I’ll take you up on either one. I love playing dice and/or board games, and have a hard time finding partners.
Strat-O-Matic makes sports sim games that are a lot of fun, esp. the baseball (now computerized, but still available in the board-game version) and football. The games are cool, but the company’s customer service leaves something to be desired.
My sister came over last night, and I had my first opportunity to play Devil Bunny Hates the Earth and the terrific Bitin’ Off Hedz. I need to go buy a bunch of little plastic dinosaurs for the latter… the object is to race your dinosaur up the volcano and be the first to throw yourself in.
