# Favorite outfits revealed to be hideous

**I’m leaving out my 1980s teenhood attire, as it would be shooting fish in the barrel (and fish wearing parachute pants, at that).**
**1. Mid-1990s, beloved brown corduroy pants and forest green oxford shirt. I wore this combo everywhere, it was comfy and I felt all LL Bean-ish in it.**
Moment of revelation: happened before taking a rare family photo of us grown-up kids.
[INDENT]Mom: “Honey, please wear something else for the photo – you look like a tree in that outfit.”
Outcome: put in my “no man’s land” drawer and never worn again.[/INDENT]
**2. Early 2000s, really nice designer suit in tan plaid (tan, black, brown, and maroon pattern). Loved it, especially for important occasions such as job interviews.**
Moment of revelation: upon telling beloved partner I was donating this fave suit because of my weight loss.
Beloved: “Oh, thank God! You looked like a 1970’s plaid couch in that!”
Outcome: donated.

I did this to my wife many years ago. She had an outfit that had black pants and a short red jacket. It was something she liked to pack for business trips until the day I told her she looked like a bellhop.

I am laughing out loud WITH your wife on this one. I, too, had a similar outfit I liked to pack for travel. I wore it a lot back when red was first dubbed as the power color. I thought I looked confident and strong in that suit. And all the time I was blending in with the hotel bellhops! LOL

My brother found a short-sleeved shirt he liked, it had snap pockets. His son’s comment, “Hellooo, Hank Hill.”
Shirt went to Goodwill the next day.

I once received a dress as a gift from a friend of my grandma’s. I had to try it on for Grandma and her friend and they both just loved it and I said thank you.
Some time later, Grandma asked why I never wore it and I had to point out to her that the fabric exactly matched the pattern of [this shirt](http://blogs.mydevstaging.com/blogs/parents-perspective/files/2014/06/ernie-sesamestreet.jpg). :dubious:

I spent two years out of the country (1992-1994). When I got back, I pegged my jeans (folded the cuff over and rolled it up so that it was snug around the ankle), just as I had used to. My old friends corrected me within hours…_fairly_ gently.

Right around 2000 or 2001 there was a fad for knee-length sweater cardigans. I bought one and wore it about three times, felt great, cozy, trendy, all that.
Then, while sitting in a campus coffee shop watching other women wear them, I realized we were all wearing bathrobes.
Donated it.

:eek: Looks into closet. But I can’t throw ALL of it out!?!
Just yesterday I had to dress up for a very important meeting. I put on an old favorite suit, although we joked about how I honestly couldn’t remember how long I’d had it. I’m pretty sure I bought it in the 90’s though.
The meeting didn’t go well, and afterwards friends took me to a bakery for some medicinal chocolate. The baker commented on how she’d seen me going by the window and thought “Wow, that’s so 80’s, but that’s all coming back in style, isn’t it?”
So, you’re saying it was already out of style when I bought it? decades ago?

Oh well. It’s comfortable, and covers all the bikini areas, so I’ll probably keep wearing it anyway.

I recently saw a photo of myself wearing what I thought was a chic little beige dress-and-jacket combo.
Unfortunately, the cut of the jacket made me look like I was built like a barrel (I was a size 10 and I’m 5’9" tall), and the beige color blended right into my skin tone.
Add in the shoe-color-then-considered-‘nude’ (tannish beige), and you have a truly unfortunate outfit.

Have you seen that poncho thing Suzanne Sommers is marketing? I can’t recall exactly, but I think the marketing was that it was a poncho, day dress, evening dress, and cuddle jammies . . .
