[/QUOTE] While it doesn’t go into a lot of detail about what happened with his wife, it is STRONGLY hinted that he had to kill her… but I’ll leave it alone. Be advised that “I am Legend” is a collection of short stories, some good, some bad. It reminded me a lot of the Alfred Hithcock short stories I read when I was a kid (though if he wrote them, or just edited them, I don’t know). ---

Okay, I totally retract potboiler as a description of Swan Song. There’s nothing profound about it, but it’s a great ride. Equating it to a good B-movie would be totally accurate. I, apparently incorrectly, was using potboiler as a phrase to describe a page-turning fast read. Sorry, Mr. McCammon - didn’t mean to damn you with faint praise. ---

There was a French movie in the last two or three years, focusing on a family in a bleak PA world, beset by gangs and hunger. The nature of the disaster which caused the collapse of society was never explained. The daughter got raped, IIRC from a review; I haven’t seen the movie myself but the reviewer liked it. I guess the film was a big hit in France. Anyone know it? ---

Well, Ralph Bakshi’s _Wizards_ holds a special place in my heart. I saw it 30+ years ago and really enjoyed it. However: I saw it again a year or so ago and was less impressed. I’m not sure if that is due to it not aging well, or perhaps it is not as good for an adult as a youth or perhaps my tastes have changed. In any case, I wouldn’t totally recommend against it, but I’m not sure I can recommend it. ---

I’d also like to point out that for the past two years, I’ve been reading from this list like mad. I may be near the end of my Dystopian Reading Marathon. I hope not. Addictive thing that is, although morbidly depressing in regards to women. I’m always up for suggestions! ---

There is a short story collection called “Wastelands” that is full of “end of the world” stories, some very very good. I highly recommend it. ---
