D’oh! I read the OP. I really did.
Just not lately.
Fine, then. How about the 1956 1984?
Not a 1956 film – it came out in 1962:
Interesting as an artifact. I couldn’t get uinto it. Reportedly, the British version ends with Winston Smith and Julia refusing to submit, dying in a hail of bullets. Even the IMDB repeats this. But I’ve never seen that version, and wonder if this story is like that Godzilla Loses/King Kong loses thing in King Kong vs. Godzilla (that is, not true).
In any event, the 1984 remake is lots better. (And the 1981 Day of the Triffids is lots better, too.)
That’s the movie I was originally looking for in Netflix, but it doesn’t seem to be available. I remember the creepy scene where the guy is walking along a wall, leaving a streak with his mutated(?) arm.
Maybe the cheesiest was “Plan 9 from Outer Space”
Not a 1956 release.
Gotta go with (the terrific) Forbidden Planet also, but that’s because my favorite SciFi film of the 50s didn’t premiere until Feb. 1957.
Next time you watch “X The Unknown”. remember that it was originally a rejected script for the Quartermas series.
