Dave Kingman and The Ball That Never Came Down.

Easy.

Nadal vs. Federer 2008 Wimbledon Final.

Best match in any sport of all time. The 2 best players, both playing at their best, under very weird and interesting circumstances, and pushing each other to the limit. True greatness and a classic for the ages.

Is there some kind of narrated film series that highlights this match? It would be amazing.

You pick one , i had season tickets for Barrys entire career.

This was every game.

No kidding. 4th-and-18 with 18 seconds left and they score a touchdown off a Hook-and-Latter. 4th down AGAIN in overtime and they score off a HB Pass. Then the Statue of Liberty play on the 2 point conversion to win it. Unbelievable.

Also…1995 Seattle Mariners. After being 13 games out of 1st Place they battle back and win a one game playoff against the Angels for the AL West. Mariners then fall down 2-0 to the Yankees and battle back to force a game 5 in Seattle. Yankees score 1 run in the top of the 11th inning. In the bottom half, Joey Cora drags a single, Griffey Junior singles leaving runners at the corners. Take it away Edgar Martinez.

ETA: That single play may very well be the reason the Seattle Mariners still exist. Relocation was a very good possibility at the time.

NFC Championship, January 2005 - After watching two home games where Philly blew the championship game, we finally punched a ticket to the Super Bowl. It was a blast to be there.

George Brett - Pine Tar Game - I was always a Brett fan, and that outburst was classic. Still love watching videos of it.

There’s a book.

The answer for me is the Rafter/Ivanisevic Wimbledon final in 2001. Ivanisevic became the only person to win the tournament as a wildcard. The game was played on a Monday instead of the usual Sunday. The crowd was rambunctious instead of the usual demure. I think Ivanisevic faced 3 or 4 championship points against him, all of which he won. It was the most exciting sporting event I’ve ever seen, and I’m not really a tennis fan.

For events I’ve seen in person, it’s gotta be Affirmed beating Alydar to win the Triple Crown.

Best basketball game I have ever seen. I watched on TV, and Boggan and Durant both just refused to lose. I was a senior in HS and ended up at OSU partially because of this game, that arena, that passion. Most of the late stages of the game were from an abnormally high camera angle because the normal lower cameras were screened by the alumni standing and blocking the views.

The circus shot by Eaton and wannbe-guido walkon Tyler Hatch having the game of his life only make it better. And now I can root for Durant down at OKC.

NC State defeats Houston

The Immaculate Reception comes to mind. I was just a kid, and we were sitting at the kitchen table. I was surprised when my dad just went nuts when Franco Harris ran it in for a touchdown. Dad occasionally shouted at the tv during sporting events, but this was on a new level. I mean he went completely bonkers that day and my brother and I both have fond memories of the event.

As a long-suffering Seahawks fan, Super Bowl XLVIII. Living in Denver and this as the first play made it sweeter.

But it has to be the Miracle on Ice. Do you know how Al Michaels got that job? He had done a hockey game a few years and no one had so he was made the announcer. And thus he became immortal.

  1. Kirk Gibson’s homer in '88. You could hear the entire town erupt with cheering.
  2. 1975 Rose Bowl: Trailing 17-10 to Ohio State, USC QB Pat Haden hits J.K. McKay (head coach John McKay’s son) for a 38-yard TD with 2 minutes to go in the game. John McKay elects to go for 2 instead of playing it safe, and Haden connects with Shelton Diggs in the back of the end zone to win the game. Amazing game.

They are who we thought they were:

Chicago Bears 2006 comeback over the Arizona Cardinals.

Auburn’s runback of the field goal 100 yards to defeat Alabama in the Iron Bowl, 34-28.

Mavericks defeat the Heat in Game 6 of the 2011 NBA Finals.

South Korea advancing to the semifinals of the World Cup in 2002.

Germany smashing Brazil 7-1 in the 2014 World Cup semifinals.

Texas Longhorns come back from behind to defeat the USC Trojans 41-38 in the 2005 college football championship.

Japan defeating the USA on penalty kicks in the 2011 Women’s World Cup final.

Japan defeating China 3-1 in the 2004 Asia Cup final.

Wow, WAY zombie thread… :open_mouth:

Franz Klammer in '76. Edge of the seat stuff.

Coroebus winning the foot race.

1987 NCAA Men’s Basketball National Championship Game.

This shot was pretty fun to watch, too.

With the resurrection of this thread, I’ll update my selections with a more recent moment: Hosmer’s Mad Dash.
