Er, sorry for the triple post, but I meant to say “from late season 1 through the end of the fourth season”, rather than the end of season 2. The first season was largely written by a bunch of different writers, in a largely episodic format. And there’s some cheesy stuff in there, “TKO”, the boxing one, may be the worst (fighting it out with “infection”, perhaps). However, there are also some good ones. For instance, “Confessions and Lamentations” sets you up to expect a very star trek ending, and you end up with the furthest thing from it. The bulk of the rest of the series was written by one man, the creator, who largely translated the story with the depth of a novel into several season of a TV show with a conherent story line. It was a pioneer in many ways. ---

The creator of B5 pitched the idea to Paramount _before_ DS9 was on the air or even talked about in the press. Paramount turned the idea down, saying that they didn’t want to have two space shows on the air at the same time. The creator of B5 says that he doesn’t think that DS9 ripped him off, but I’ve read the breakdown of the time lines, and it sure seems highly possible to me that Paramount _did_ rip him off. YMMV. ---

I didn’t intend to knock trek, but rather, praise B5. In retrospect, it did seem like a bash trek. Not that I wouldn’t bash trek, but that wasn’t my intent in this case. By the way, I wouldn’t try to pass any accusations of “stealing” towards B5. A few years before B5 started, it was pitched to Paramount. As the show was outlined and planned before it ever was made, the creator of the show left the series outline/Bible with the people at Paramount at their request to look over. They turned it down, but then decided to make DS9, which has a _lot_ of similiarities. Space station (first time for trek), outside a valuable transportation node (jump gate/wormhole), centered on the station for the first few seasons, but then branching out with use of a ship (defiant, white star), and it was the first trek series to try to integrate story arcs into it, and other similarities that I can’t remember, but I’m sure are available with a google search. DS9 pretty clearly ripped off elements from B5. ---
