My dad makes potted meat gravy and eats it over toast. I’m the only one that will eat it with him. I have a vague suspicion that quite a lot of what we eat regularly may be considered ‘white trash’ fare. Cornbread and pot likker (the juice from a pot of greens) Rice and gravy (made with whatever leftover meats are in the fridge and bacon grease) Cracker salad (crumbled saltines, mayo, and chopped fresh tomato) Vienna sausage right out of the can Fried bologna Smothered Turkey necks And a lot more things, I’m sure. ---

The line gets blurred for me whether its redneck/white trash/ethnic or just Southern food … like, RC Cola with peanuts dumped into the bottle smacks of pure redneck food to me. ---

Food can’t tell who eats it. If it’s good to eat and there’s no snobbery involved, what difference would it make? If it matters, RC and peanuts works as well (for me at least) with Coke, Pepsi, Double Cola, or even Dr Pepper. I don’t much care for the lemon-lime drinks with peanuts: Upper 10, Sprite, Seven Up, Fresca, and the like. Another way of dressing up the basic question is to have it be pets. What category of human would you guess an Airedale would belong to? ---

Interesting question! 🙂 Pets are hard because sometimes they pick YOU. Or are given to you/foisted upon you by others. For instance, a friend of mine has an Airedale and she is very down to earth and philosophical and kind. Whether any other Airedale owners fit that mold … dunno. Why? do YOU have an Airedale Zeldar? 😛 ---

Most other breeds are too obviously ethnic neutral in my mind. I was a cat person until our latest one died a year or so ago. Last dog I had was a Spitz when I was little. Do you own a critter? I went looking for a YouTube version as well as the lyrics and I guess it’s been so long ago that what I had remembered as “and a Maple on the hill” appears to be [I’m playin’ Maple on the hill](http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_are_all_the_lyrics_to_RC_Cola_and_a_Moon_Pie_by_Bill_Lister) and those lyrics don’t match what I’m remembering.
