Two from _Mafia!_

“Say hello to my little friend!”
[a little person, armed with a sub-machine gun, jumps out and starts shooting.]
"What’s this?’
“It’s a Sicilian message: Luca Brazzi sleeps with the fishes.”
“What a shame. A handsome boy like that could have had any woman he wanted.”

Another…

Nick Rivers: I’m pleased to meet you. My name’s Nick.

Hillary: Nick? What does that mean?

Nick Rivers: Oh, nothing. My dad thought of it while he was shaving.

At the end of “Commando”, Arnold is fighting a rogue commando and his arch enemy, Bennett. He ends up breaking a steam pipe and running Bennett through with it so that the steam is blowing out the end of the pipe sticking out of his body. Arnold says, “Blow off some steam, Bennett!”

How about when they are getting into the 2 person cow costume and the blond guy insists on switching the plan so he is the back, and the guy now in the front hands him the back end of the cow costume and says “fine, be an asshole”

Does the original have to be in English? Because otherwise Trueba’s comedies, such as La niña de tus ojos and Belle Époque, have enough puns for a few pun forests.

For my purposes? No, but it has to be in a language I know well enough to understand the pun. So ideally English, French, or German. (I could also probably do Russian, Hungarian, or Icelandic, though at the risk of missing cultural nuances.)

But don’t let that stop you from quoting your favourite Trueba puns here. Others might enjoy them even if I can’t use them for my project. 🙂

I very nearly posted that one, too, but I wasn’t sure if it counted as a pun with a visual aspect. 🙂

Groan. :). The Roger Moore-era Bond movies were infamous for those sorts of cheesy lines as Bond finished off a villain.

And sometimes, no villain was involved.

I recall one of the Roger Moore movies: Bond had (as I recall) flown to the US and was picked up at the airport by a CIA staffer. He was surprised that his CIA contact, Felix Leiter, had not been there to pick him up. “He was busy, but we’re in radio contact, if you want to speak with him.” However, the car contained no radio.

“Use this,” the driver said, pointing at the car’s cigarette lighter. And soon, Felix’s voice greets Bond through the cigarette lighter.

“Ah,” said Bond. “A genuine Felix lighter.”

None of them named “Soissons Neuvaumes”, huh? 🙂

You reminded me of another purely visual pun from \*Top Secret! \*

Nick (and, I think, Hillary) are fleeing from the Nazis, in the backstage area of a theater. They find a door labeled, “Prop Room.” When they open it, we see that the room is filled with propellers. 😃

It was originally from the _Police Squad_ TV series episode titled “Revenge and Remorse (The Guilty Alibi)” (1982) and recycled for the 2½ movie (1991). According to IMDb, the exact quotes are:

> [@Revenge and Remorse (The Guilty Alibi)](#):

> Mimi : Is this some kind of bust?
> Det. Frank Drebin : Yes, it’s very impressive, but we’d just like to ask a few questions.

_Airplane II: The Sequel_ had a similar joke.

There has been a problem requiring Elaine (I think) to take immediate action. She does, then says, “I need a little breather.”

Up steps Herve Villechaize, smiling and adjusting his tie, while audibly inhaling and exhaling.

In Duck Soup, Groucho distracts Mrs. Teasdale while Chico and Harpo sneak around her house. Harpo accidentally turns on a radio, which erupts in a Sousaesque march until he gets it turned off.

Mrs. Teasdale: What was that?
Groucho: Probably just mice.
T: Mice? Mice don’t play music.
G: Oh yeah? What about the old maestro?

Not a great joke, but there it is. Many years ago, I watched the movie on Swiss TV, with French subtitles. “Mice” in French is “souris” — no pun there. Instead, the subtitles read (and I’m in a diner on an iPad without diacriticals or having had a conversation in French for years, so please forgive me):

T: Qu’est-que ca?
G: Probablement les rats.
T: Les rats ne jouent pas la music.
G: Tu ne connaise pas la ratsody?

I was impressed.
