If you count playoff games, he’s already there.

> The streak though is the the one record that has a lot to do with luck. Peyton could end up needing his appendix out after all. Still, Favre’s streak isn’t quite as unattainable as it appears and QBs probably have the best shot out of any position of breaking it now that lineman have gotten so insanely big.

Kickers or punters or even long snappers could do it, although that’s probably less impressive than the guy running the offense. Jeff Feagles never missed a game in 22 years. He punted for the Giants and a couple of other teams and played in all 352 regular season games during that time.

Don’t worry, **Ellis** – there is now, as there was this entire week, zero chance that Favre doesn’t start. Tuck, Osi and the crew will have plenty of chances to knock him senseless.

Hmmm…I wonder if the defensive coaches are telling them to “hit him, but not hard enough to knock him out of the game…we could use one of his patented final-drive no-look easy-pick passes”.

Favre reminds me of the Black Knight from _Monty Python and the Holy Grail_, except he’s only accidentally funny.

Yeah, I’m sure the painkiller addiction was a big help in the streak too.

> Luck my ass. You don’t start every game for 20 years because you’re lucky. Favre played a whole season with a busted thumb on his throwing hand once. He’s got two busted bones in his foot right now. He’s tough as nails. His streak is untouchable. It’s the single most impressive stat in NFL history.

I don’t disagree that he’s tough as nails, given the injuries he’s played through. In addition to the broken thumb, he’s also played many games on badly sprained ankles.

But, luck plays a role, too. He’s never had a knee injury, or a significant shoulder injury until now. He’s never had a noteworthy concussion. Those are the sorts of things that, tough or not, you’re _not_ going to be able to come back and play the next week.

In the early years, maybe, but that whole episode (and the trip to rehab at Hazelden to kick the addiction) was in the offseason before the '96 season. He’s had a lot of injuries since then.

No arguments here. I dislike “consecutive games” or “ironman” streaks simply because they give credit to showing up rather than actually performing.

There were a bunch of games in there in which Favre probably did his team a disservice by showing up. 🙂

The Packers might have won three or four Super Bowls in the 90s if they’d sent in Favre’s backup for the fourth quarter. 😉

This whole thing could be a opportune face saving boon for Favre and the League. If he doesn’t play again, they don’t have to worry about punishment for the wang texting.

Last week I picked the Bills to win in our office pool because “Favre can always be counted on to throw a few picks.” True to my lousy season so far, he was knocked out of the game with the Bills up 7-0, courtesy of, yes, a pick-six thrown by Favre. Tavaris Jackson then led Minnesota to 37 unanswered points.

Says something that I was thinking the Bills could beat Favre, but not Tavaris Freaking Jackson.

Jackson threw the pick six. Favre’s only pass was intercepted, but was not returned for a TD.

The career intereception record is actually pretty impressive; sort of like Nolan Ryan’s career walk record. [The top ten](http://www.pro-football-reference.com/leaders/pass_int_career.htm) include five hall of famers, plus Favre.

Walter Payton only missed one game in his career. It’s less games, but he was a running back. A running back that would seek out contact.

LaDanian Tomlinson has only missed three, and only one until last season. That and Payton’s “stat” are far more impressive to me.
