He announced like a month ago that he was going to resign as soon as he finished the reports. He would have been fired on Jan 20th anyway. ---

He’s not exactly a Chatty Cathy. He has always preferred for his work to speak for him. If you read the gift article I linked, I think the futility of him sticking around is made clear. There won’t be anything to prosecute, and he’d just be a sitting duck, waiting to be fired. ---

Undoubtedly. But let’s dream for a bit: 1. Smith goes back to his job in the Hague, outside of the US. 2. He is carrying a copy of his report. 3. He leaks it to a trustworthy non-US media source; say, the BBC, which publishes it. 4. Hilarity, and a bunch of other things, ensue. I don’t think that he will do that, but it’s fun to dream. ---

The ages of the justices are Clarence Thomas (77), Samuel Alito (74), Sonia Sotomayor (70), John Roberts (70), Elena Kagan (68), Brett Kavanaugh (60), Neil Gorsuch (58), Amy Coney Barrett (53), and Ketanji Brown Jackson (54). There’s no Ruth Bader Ginsburg waiting in the wings this time around. Since Thomas ignored John Oliver’s million-dollar plus a motor home offer he’s not likely to retire and none of the rest are looking infirm. I hope she’s not hurting her breath. ---
