FCC Repeals Net Neutrality Rule

Twitter is neither an ISP nor is it “the internet”.

Neither is hate speech “political”.

Freedom of speech has nothing to do with corporations.

Thanks for the chuckle.

Corporations are people too, my friend.

Welcome to the corporate controlled internet. only those sites and services that meet our approval will be allowed while most non approved sites will still exist it will take a loooong time to access them. Hopefully all sites will conform to the rules of not criticizing the government and extoll the virtues of “family values” and of course not be spending time on the internet when they should be in church/

Corporations provide the internet. Who else should control it?

How about corporations that provide access to the Internet provide unfettered access to the Internet, and corporations that provide content, provide content to those who want it?

Why?

Because that provides the best benefit for the consumer of the content?

Why should the government mandate that outcome?

Because the government should provide consumer protections from close to monopoly-level corporate power.

General welfare clause.

Why shouldn’t they? In fact, it’s kind of their fucking job!

Well, it’s hard for them to do while someone’s trying to drown them in a bathtub.

No, that’s not the government’s job.

It bloody well is and you bloody well know it.

Read the preamble to the Constitution. A free and unrestricted internet falls under every single clause therein.

“More Perfect Union” - Check. Knowledge is Power, and the more people who have the Knowledge the better.

“Establish Justice” - Check. The internet has replaced print media in the whole “Freedom of the Press” bit, which serves to keep the Government honest (for some value thereof).

“Ensure Domestic Tranquility” - Check. Secrecy breeds Fascism and Tyranny.

“Provide for the Common Defense” - Check. The net ties us together. Today, Paul Revere would have blasted out a text alert.

“Promote the General Welfare” - Check. As everybody above has been pointing out to you.

“Secure the Blessings of Liberty” - Check. Modern political campaigns are net-driven and secure most of their funding from on-line solicitations.

So yeah, it **is **the government’s job.

You realize that the Preamble has no force of law, right?

Your argument is silly, at best.

Couple more pages in, and while no posters on the anti-NN side has offered a straight answer to my question, I feel I can call it for “regulation bad!” as the only reason they’ll give to repeal Title II protection.
The others in support in the broader world have been the ISPs themselves, for reasons of profit, and the millions of bogus emails sent in support - Russian trolls, perhaps?

According to your profile, you live in Australia. Why are you so concerned about the American people?
