I suddenly have a fear of stepping outside my office and being shot, run over, or squashed by a falling body.

Seriously, I’ve had the height and bridge things mildly, but what really scares me is the by-proxy version. I hate going near high places with my kids in case they get the same kind of impulse. Mainly because I’ve seen how well they control their impulses in other situations.

Count me in as one of the “urge to jump off of a tall place” crowd. I wonder where that urge comes from…any Psychology grad students who could do a study on this?

You described the feelings I get when I’m in a high place _exactly_! Wow.

I think that it’s actually a pretty common thing with phobias to feel like you’re voluntarily going to submit to what the phobia is about (jump off, cut yourself, etc.). I’ve mostly heard about people talking about fear of heights, though.
