> But heck, it’s a sink. I’ll replace it eventually. I’m so happy that I’m not washing dishes in the bathtub tonight!!!

W00T!!! Working kitchens just totally rock. Washing dishes in the bathtub just bites big time. Counters are so very good to have 😃

> I did bring ear cover, but was too brain dead from the drive last night to get it out of the suitcase. I did this morning tho!

I do this all the time. I’ll pack the other weather gear, but then I expect that all of the weather outside of my climate controlled mode of transportation will be the same as when I left.

How’d the event go?

Buttercup, our perfect dog, has learned a bad habit. Every time I let her out in the horse area, she runs right over to the pile of horse shit…errr…compost pile…and rolls. She looks so ecstatic that I can’t yell at her, but dang she gets really stinky. We are going home this weekend and she won’t have access to horse shit again, but why do dogs do this?

This is a serious question, our rescued grayhound has never broken training like that before. Am I mishandling her, or is it just something that she couldn’t help?

I am going to share another anti-rant. Someone in a different thread kindly sent me some hand made glass beads. BEAUTIFUL beads that are just what I would have picked for me. Holy cow, I am so gobsmacked just looking at them. Thank you kind and talented person.

Isn’t that a predator thing? Somewhere I read that predators will roll in the dung of prey animals to disguise their scents. (Yep. See [here](http://blog.betternaturedogtraining.com/2012/11/05/rolling_in_poop/).)

My rant: I’ve had a nasty cold all week. I think I may be well enough to go into the office tomorrow, and damned if it isn’t going to be the coldest day so far of the year. And we’re supposed to get another 6-12 inches of snow come Monday. As if we haven’t had **ENOUGH OF THIS ALREADY**.

“When the Rants came marching in” has more oomph, I think (simply because us foreigners are more likely to have heard of the reference)… have we used it already?

My alarm is set for 5:20 a.m. Last night it went of at 12:42 a.m. I turned it off and reset it. It went off again.
And again
And again
And again

I turned the phone off and on. It went off again.

I took the battery out and put it back in. It went off again.

I threw it across the room. It went off again.

It is now 1 a.m. I played with the phone for a little bit and discovered the Sprint network had gone down. I reset the phone again.

5:20 a.m. The alarm does not go off. Fortunately someone is crashing around like a drunk elephant upstairs, so I got up in time to get ready for work.

My phone is currently turned off and in my purse. I’m going to reset it again tonight and we’ll see. This had better fix itself because I’m on day 4 of a six-day workweek and I need that alarm to work on Sunday when I’m usually off.

I don’t have all that much experience with greyhounds, access to horse poop, or even proper training of a dog, but I’m pretty sure that a giant stink-pile was probably just too amazing to resist. My dog is usually very well-behaved, but one day he was confronted with a _giant_ pile of stinky garbage and minimal supervision. He was powerless to stop himself, and that was the exact expression on his face as we hosed him down afterwards. 🙂

My rant is very small, but I feel like I need to rant if I’m going to post. I’m getting ready to move, and I’m heartily annoyed that my friends, people I have helped with moving and packing and painting and cleaning out basements after floods, all have perfectly legitimate excuses not to help me when I need help moving stuff into storage. Fuck you guys. See if I paint your kitchen again.

Yeah, it sucks to be the one who everyone owes a favor when increasing obligations make helping a buddy much harder to schedule.

When I was young, spending a day helping someone move at the drop of a hat was no big deal (and maybe even fun). Now, I have responsibilities and schedules and if you can use help before 9 and 11 am two Saturdays from now, I can squeeze you in.

After we felt we had evened up all the moving obligations in our family, we used a moving company for our last move and didn’t request any favours from any friends or family. We have removed ourselves from the moving obligation loop, and we will never help anyone move again.

After all these chumps don’t help you with this move, you too will be out of the moving obligation loop. It’s a small price to pay for that kind of freedom. 🙂

Oh, I always use actual movers, mostly because I’m lazy and I want to not be exhausted when I get into my new house. 🙂 So I haven’t asked anybody to help me move in fifteen years. This is the slightly-less-aggravating putting-things-in-storage phase. And once this is done, I’ll be 400 miles away, so this is their last damn chance to pay me back. We are way too old to be moving couches for pizza and beer.

You can hire people to do this part, too! And oh, what a relief it is.

Ah, gotcha.

Well, the new fridge and dishwasher are in and installed (and the old ones out the door). I mini-Pit myself - I missed the opportunity to tip the delivery guys, who did a bunch of work on a very cold day. Sorry, guys! (We did manage to tip the installer.)

Oh, I knew that it was cold since I’d had to get out of the car several times on the way here. It was the freaking wind that I wasn’t ready for! My GAWD it’s cold here.

They can’t help themselves. It’s like ladies putting on perfume; the dogs just love that smell and want to carry it with them. You are lucky she isn’t eating them too!

I have to go do relief work at our second location. It’s work I hate to do. I agreed to do it because I don’t want my employer to think of me as inflexible or uncooperative. I’m fully competent to do it, or the manager wouldn’t have asked. But I hate it. I stayed in bed because I don’t want to go. Now I’m avoiding getting in the shower because I don’t want to go. I have 20 minutes before I’ll start running late. I’ll get through it. It’s only 4 hours. But I still don’t want to go. Then I still have to pop into my regular job location after, to take care of some things that won’t wait the weekend.

Bah.

I was all happy 'cos I got my wallet back after losing it, with all the cards intact (I’d cancelled the bank card anyway, but replacing all the membership cards and driving licence was going to be a total pain). There’d been no money in it, so not a big loss… except I’ve just realised I left the gardening vouchers I got for my birthday the previous weekend in there.

That’s the second year in a row my aunt has got me the same vouchers, and I’ve lost them… At least I got to spend some first this time, and I know how I lost them- last years’ ones just vanished, and never did show up, even when I moved.

Dammit. I’ve been planning what to spend them on all week.

Why do I befriend so many university students? Most of them end up moving away eventually and I get sad. ☹

Not that it isn’t worth having them as friends, and not that I don’t stay in touch with them, but still.

Well, at least you’re not the type who constantly gushes about all their new friends, while making no effort to maintain those friendships beyond the initial rush. You know, the kind who you won’t see for 10 years because they never returned your calls and you got tired of it, then one day you run into them and they act like you’ve been besties all along.

Four to eight inches of snow predicted for Monday. Just go away, winter. You are an ugly little beast and everyone around here hates you. They’ve basically cancelled my eldest daughter’s spring break because of so many snow days this year.

Here in SD, they used to be allowed to build snow days into the academic calendar, but apparently that has been outlawed, so now they have to grab days elsewhere to make them up or tack more on at the end of the year. It was kind of nice the old way because if you didn’t use the snow days, the school year ended ‘early’. Some years the seniors would have the whole week off between the end of school and graduation.
