Why is human feces sometimes green? I’m a little worried because my feces has been a dark jungle green these past few days. Thanks in advance to all the smart Dopers out there. 🙂 ---

Actually, different foods, food coloring, the amount of water you drink, and other intestinal inputs can all affect your outputs. If you’re not feeling ill, I wouldn’t worry right now. But I am not a Doctor. ---

Sometimes, raw green veggies survive the alimentary canal in what seems to be original condition. Some nutrients have been extracted, but you appear to poop yesterday’s spinach intact. I cannot explain this. Maybe somebody else can. ---

My feces are **always** green after I eat a mess of Collard greens on New Years Day. I wouldn’t sweat it, unless you haven’t eaten greens lately. :eek: ---

It could also be caused by medication or vitamin supplements. ---

It can also be caused by that ‘blue raspberry’ shade of food coloring. ---

In my experiance, certain foods (beets spring to mind), can definately affect the color of feces. Given that, if you ever experience very light colored stool, like a beige color, then you should worry. This usually is an indicator of hepatitis. Believe me, I know from experience on that one. ---
